Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

Hasbeans delivery = fail.......been waiting since Friday for my last order :(

That's interesting - I've always received them the next working day.. have you given them a shout to see what the problem is?

Oddly enough I'm just about to post a pour movie post :D I just need to pop to tescos to get some milk...

I broke the videos into sections, which I'm still uploading however:
* I apologise for not being able to hold the camera and do things
* poor lighting

I've uploaded pics first whilst I compress the 160MB sections..

Grinding...
I'm basically grinding some 3 day old Iapar 59.

Clumpyness! Perfectly normal from beans of this age with a doserless grinder. It's basically the oils, electrostatic charge etc that make the clumps after they'll compressed out by the grinder.

Preparing the portafilter & tamping
Here I'm explaining how I tamp and show that you can put loads of pressure on the spouts..

Brewing the shot!
The money shot showing the pour. This is a quick pour, ideally it should be longer so I think the grind could be finer and possibly more pressure.

Must resist necking this right now..

Milky Milky
I'm showing the steam wand but I attempted to hold the camera and steam.. big bubbles started to appear.. so I stopped and averted the disaster.. I show straight after the steaming.. Does it look like wet paint?

The foam should be like wet paint.. back of spoon test seems that it's ok.

The final result. Not too bad.

Here I sit infront of the computer writing this up:

Just about to order a tamper, is a Stainless steel one worth the month over a aluminum one?

edit - video ? :p

I doubt there's much difference. The one I use is a stainless steel, 49mm Euro curve. The handle is a 'long' simply because of my hand size.

I'm just dealing with the video now.. found AutoGK.. lol reduces the size nicely at 65% quality and only 128Kbit audio (at least a third).

Just watching them now.. remember to 'kill' the clumps.. just about to start uploading..

Whats a Euro curve? or C-Flat ?

It's basically how flat the bottom is.

Flat < US curved < EU curved.

Not sure if C-flag is basically US curved.

If you're doing singles with a cone shaped basket then a curve may be more preferable but it doesn't make too much difference from what I've been told.

lol, where is the "money shot"?

You need a brighter kitchen light :p

The money shot is coming... *fnarr fnarr* so you'll have to wait.

I have... except it went *pop* (the transformer rather than the bulbs).. It also doesn't help but YT seem to make it darker still compared to the uncompressed vid. :/
