Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

I recently tried the Hasbean starter pack and the coffee was ok not great. My current favourite is this one from Garraways-

Lovely rich roasted flavor :)

I was ordering the starter packs over the last 12 months...as you say ok not great.

I'm loving the Rossa in the aeropress

£14.48 for the Garraways thats looks good value even after tax and the £5 delivery charge.

Can you send me a 14g sample of the Garraways...email in trust ;)

(will swop you with 14g of the Lavazza Qualita Rossa)

Hi,
I managed to buy Gaggia Baby on auction site for £60 incuding delivery :)
I think it is great price and I hope I won't be disappointed as people were saying it is a good starter kit ;)

Can you guys advise for a decent coffee :) and most important, best places to get it .
Thanks

It doesn't.

Buy a porlex or hario if you want to hand grind. Don't buy a grinder from a high-st shop unless it is a decent (i.e. probably not available in the dept stores.). I like the rancilio rocky, but others have different preferences.

Just picked up a new toy :) Not figured out where it's going in the kitchen yet!

Just told my other half what I want for Xmas ;)

Got some vouchers as a thank you from work so decided to get a Gaggia MDF grinder - seemed half decent for the price and a rocky rancilo was just too much for me right now. I quite like switching between espresso and chemex and thought it was be worthwhile choosing the MDF over an MC2. Will surely be nicer than using the bloody Porlex all the time!

Think I'll grab some square mile coffee in town somewhere tomorrow ready for the grinder arriving later in the week.

Can anyone recommend the best option for a grinder to give a consistent and coarse grind of coffee to be used within a french-press? I don't want to spend over £100 and a hand grinder will be fine if it will give the best results within the budget.

Thanks!

Yes, it's a way of keeping one thing constant. Useful when you're experimenting changing other variables.

+1

I have a measuring spoon that holds just the right quantity of beans for a double shot (14g?) It also means that as I do not keep any coffee in the grinder, I can swap coffees at will (as I also drink drip coffee).

Using a spoon, you'll get more consistency than by eye. I only ever grind on demand too, be it for espresso or for brew methods. No point letting beans go stale in the hopper, eh?! :)

so my gaggia was finally delivered....broken - water resorvoire has 2 pieces snapped off...not what I paid for...
So am trying to get it collected and get a refund for it...
