Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

bottomless gif (started it too soon so missed the full pour but you can have the bubbling...)

I've been grinding beans every week day with my Zassenhaus for my Aero Press for 2 years and all because I know that a fantastic cup of coffee is only a couple of minutes away. Focus on the prize at the end :)!
I don't mind it, especially as it takes about the same time to grind a cup as it does for the water to boil (and cool) to the correct temp. My problem is that I generally make myself a coffee in the evenings after dinner (before I go to work!). So after stuffing my face full of fuel for a nightshift, I don't particularly want to be grinding away madly for my cup of coffee lest it makes me slightly ill :p

This looks easy enough :D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xohgxk4sG3A

Hi guys been lurking here for ages and finally have a question.
I've been using a clever dripper for about 6 months and loving the coffee it's making. Thought I'd try something new so bought an Aeropress with the intention of using it inverted to brew the coffee longer, it just arrived but the problem is I like a decent sized cup of coffee and the Aeropress is tiny, does anyone make a larger version of it?

My AP method is based on the HasBean inverted method:

http://www.hasblog.co.uk/a-brewing-guide-episode-1-aeropress

Check it out. I usually boil a ton of water and let it sit for 2-3mins, and I actually brew the coffee for 50-60sec too.

I think with the AP you should brew about a third of your cup, so you top it up with 2/3rds more water.

On a sidenote I finally got rid of my Square Mile sweetshop beans (hated them because they were so bloody hard to hand-grind!) and started on my TAP house blend, from the shop on Wardour St right opposite my work :D What a great blend, I shall definitely be buying more!

haz_pro... sorry for the utter slowness with my sending of the gauge. I will be popping to the post office on the way home from work tomorrow (should be getting out early) and will get it sent via recorded.

In other news I today ordered my new tamp and an Imberital MC2... woo :)

hrm... might need to try and import some of this:

The classic is down to £170 and I have £35 worth of Amazon vouchers, might buy it now :o

Okay I asked on here before on what I would need to go with the machine if I was to buy one could someone check this is correct.

Hey all,

Just a quick post to say I have received the gauge today (thanks french and hamster!)

Who is next in line (if anyone)? I just ask as I have a baby and so it may take me 3 or 4 days to get enough free time to complete this! How this doesn't inconvenience anyone. :)

No worries Haz :) Take your time. Nobody has asked for it after yourself.

If anyone wants to use it, let myself and Haz know and Haz will get it posted once he's finished with it in a week or so.

Has anyone had a flat white from Pumphrey's in Grainger Market, Newcastle?

Nicest cup of coffee I've ever had in my life. At the risk of sounding overly dramatic, I've thought about it every day since I got back from Newcastle last week Monday.

Was just wondering if anyone else had experienced the awesomeness :)

On another note, are french presses generally all the same? I broke my £8 ASDA one a few weeks back, and I've been wondering if a Bodum or the like would be any better.

there are defiantly better made french presses, generally its down to how well the filter assembly is held together and what pushes the filter against the edge of the glass... The bodum ones also have replacement glass available for them.

Thanks for the quick reply :)

I did find the ASDA one wasn't a perfect fit, and sometimes it was quite hard to push the plunger down. I grind my own beans so I'm sure that they were not the cause.

Any recommendations, or is it a case of just choosing your favourite colour from the Bodum range?

i'm pretty boring so just have a largish black bodum one that sits in the cupboard gathering dust but there are a load of nice ones out there, the double walled ones look pretty good :)

Flicking through my Flipboard earlier came across an article that was talking about a Clover coffee machine. Starbucks bought the company that invented them and had been using them in a few stores but appear to be rolling them out in more now.

Video of it in action

Looks like a cross between a French press and an aeropress. Would be interesting to try one and see how wel it makes a cup. Also pretty crazy expensive at around $11k I believe.
