Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

ditto - got my MC2 and bottomless PF from them, the PF was the wrong size when it turned up but they sorted it very quickly :)

Liking the look of the Noir edition :D

now don't judge me for what I will say...
had this gaggia baby dose for a while now - bought second hand.
rarely used it until last week or so - when I was asking for crema etc

now am looking for grinder as we know....

since I bought it, I havent descaled it or cleaned properly - taken it apart...

have done it today and once opened it, my jaw dropped....was so dirty ;(

now, water flows faster from it...

so again am struggling with making a proper espresso ...many times it just comes out sour.

if I tamper to hard, is that bad ? if I just tap it, it is bad as well isn't it....

need to get this grinder and stop using coffee that is grinned by manufacturer.

tomorrow is a long day, so will be experimenting with settings...again..

I wouldn't bother trying to get your settings right until you get at least a half-decent grinder. It really does make such a huge, *huge* difference.

I've just been to Harris and Hoole for the first time, and I shouldn't like the flat white I had, but I really did. My only complaint is that it went cold pretty quickly and I only had an 8oz cup.

They have Aeropresses for sale at £22.50, which is cheaper than Amazon by ~£2.

I've been to a couple and they are interesting. I enjoyed it too. My first one was Uxbridge and I knew the money behind the venture comes from Tesco, but the brains behind the idea are the Tollys who also own the Taylor St. Baristas stores in London, and that Tesco's only had a minority share in the company. I was very pleasantly surprised. Was expecting a step up from the normal chains, but found something that was very close to a lot of the good independent cafe's in London.

Union coffee provides their beans, and I've had mixed results from their beans in the past, but something has changed I think and they are getting substantially better.

An 8oz flat white is pretty large. They generally hover around 5-6oz. Temperature wise, a flat white should be ready to drink as soon as you get it.

I also went to the Uxbridge one :) The staff were also refreshingly polite, and you could just tell that it was a step above Costa, Starbucks etc. I think I'll go back during the week and try out their "white filter" as that's what I drink at home.

I've just ordered the following:

  • Has Bean Filter Starter Pack
  • Aerobie Aeropress
  • 350 x Aeropress filters
  • Brita Marella XL White Water Filter Jug (3.5L capacity)
  • Brita MAXTRA Water Filter Cartridges, Pack of 6
  • Kitchen Craft Milk Frothing Thermometer, Stainless Steel

I already have a Dualit 75015 conical burr grinder.

After breaking my French Press a few months ago, I've been really undecided about what to replace it with. After reading most of the internet, the Aeropress seemed like the obvious choice.

Can't wait!

My classic is going back to amazon this week as it has begun to drip fairly frequently from the steam wand. Amazon have already sent out the replacement which I should receive in the next few days.

Looks like I'll have to do the OPV mod again, luckily I still have the pressure gauge, thanks Hamster :-)

Sainsbury's sale. End of line sale.
It is national.
Some shops have more on sale. Them 3 bags were last in one I went to.

Well, my new classic arrived late last week; unfortunately the box was battered and so I refused delivery (thanks citylink). My second replacement should be here on Tuesday, and I also have a silvia wand to fit now. :D
