Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

Great presentation, I love it!
How is the actual coffee ?

sorry - totally missed this.

Sweet shop is, unsurprisingly very sweet and fruity, still rich and strongly flavoured as an americano but its sweetness makes it a very light tasting espresso initially with a real punchy heavy flavour of sweet fruits.

Red Brick is probably my personal favourite espresso blend for americano, again its a very sweet coffee with a rich and chocolatey mouthfeel and a sort of plummy fruit flavour.

It does vary seasonally and some are better than others, but i've never had a batch that i didn't really enjoy

Thanks bastic, sorted my grinder out via pm. Will get it sent off for you at some point before lunch tomorrow.

Thanks.
We decided that even though we got the deal over PM, we should mention it here anyway.
There is no appropriate forum on here to sell grinders;)

Did not wanted to break any rules.

My gaggia baby dose stopped puring water...i still get water/steam from side but am unable to make ,coffee...
Not sure what can I do or what an be the problem...
Am using only filtered water

Have a feeling that I won't be able to fix it...will know tomorrow..and all that just a day before grinder arrives ;(

New Gaggia Classic 2013 is for around £200...
Is there anything else worth considering for similar price?

This is a dangerous thread! I don't normally visit this section very often, but after taking a gamble (for me) with an Aeropress a month or so ago I decided to see if anyone else had one.

It turns out I'm not the only convert in these parts. :-)

I think I've drunk more proper coffee (albeit 'only' a variety of Taylors blends) in the last month than I have in the past ten years! It was far easier to reach for a jar of Alta Rica or Carte Noire than fire up my ancient Morphy Richards Espresso machine, and cafetieres always disappointed me. But now I'm using the Aeropress every day and genuinely looking to using it too. Great bit of kit; wish I'd bought one years ago.

However it's led me to this thread and I've now got to keep my curiosity in check. There's some really tempting caffeine-infusion tech lurking here!

Glad your enjoying the aeropress, its a great bit of kit :)

Its funny, when done well a cafetiere coffee can be a wonderful thing, the problem is that generally coffee and grind used is pretty damn bad and the measurements are total guesses...

First things first: go buy a decent grinder - the polex mini hand grinder can be had for £30 or so, then get over to hasbean and order some decent fresh coffee - any of their top sellers, blends or recommended are a good start :)

Well, for the time being I'm a bit of a Taylors captive. I work for Asda and we were clearing out some discontinued lines just as I got my Aeropress. So I got a large number of Taylors sample packs at a ridiculous price. Those 8 varieties will probably keep me going for quite a while!

Fortunately while one or two are a bit average (reminding me of the "if coffee smells this good, how come it tastes so disappointing?" effect which led me to buy premium instants) most of them are pretty good... for a relative coffee novice like myself anyway. :-)

That hasn't stopped me looking at alternatives already though. Curiosity is a terrible thing! I've always enjoyed my coffee, even the low-brow stuff I subsisted upon until now, but the Aeropress has lifted the curtain on a whole new chapter. I'm curiously excited about spending a few years discovering what I really like.

Or maybe I'm just suffering from mild caffeine poisoning. ;-)

fare enough, probably best to work your way through those and work out the sort of flavours you enjoy before getting fresh beans, grinding them yourself and forever ruining the pre-ground stuff ;)

so gaggia is dead...took it apart..cleaned it and still nothing that I can do...
maybe will be able to afford a new one at the end of this month..a long way with a new grinder...

yes and no..quick research suggests 60-80£ and I paid 60 for machine...just when I started to get a good grip in getting good coffee from it and after buying mc2 it died...my luck...

solonoid on bay is around 30-35 so a lot as well and it might not be what is wrong...

Today I somehow managed to chip all the teeth in my Porlex hand grinder . I have only had it a few months, I was expecting it to last a lot longer than this!

I just noticed a load of white chunks in the coffee puck from the Aero press and then noticed the chips in the ceramic burr. Seems to have scored the sides of the Aero press as well, but it still seems to work ok. i would have been annoyed if that was damaged as well.

I'm in the market for a new grinder and espresso machine, what are considered the best home appliances?

I don't really want to spend silly money (£1,000+) as I only have an espresso a day (double).
