Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

I need to get it dialled in a little but I couldn't believe how fine (too fine) the grounds were when I'd modified it. I would have went for an MC2 if it hadn't been for its size, the kitchen is tiny so there's no bench space for a grinder and my Silvia, this fits perfectly in one of the cupboards with about 1cm to spare!

MC2 on the way.... fed up of using the Porlex hand grind! Hopefully it arrives today in time for the endless coffee making for the next 2 days!

Adding dials.. soon you'll realise it's not the spoon that bends..

You'll want a Elektra Microcasa a leva .. it's already got a dial, adjustable recharging and timing.. :p

Hi guys, does anyone know whether it is worth getting something like the Dualit burr grinder over something cheaper like the De'Longhi kg79? Does the price difference reflect the difference in quality?

Thanks

I got an Aeropress and Porlex grinder for Christmas and have ordered some beans from Hasbean.

All the instructions for the Porlex are in Japanese, can anyone give me advice on how to setup the grinder to get the best from the Aeropress.

Thanks.

Was suspended at the time but wanted to tell you all that Amazon had the Clever v2 dripper for £5.40 (Deals finished now :( ). I got one myself with some filter papers and a Hario gooseneck kettle (even though it's not really needed for immersion brewing).

I'll be following this guide and let you know how the brew turns out.

But the video in the link mentions 20g to 350ml water, so I'll go with that ratio for a single cup serving.

I'm probably being a bit of a philistine and don't really belong in this thread but after a trip to London in November I acquired a taste for Lattes and rather than spend ridiculous amounts on Starbucks/Costa I thought I'd buy my own machine.

And so I just bought a De'Longhi Magnifica ESAM4200 'bean-to-cup' machine to appease my cravings for coffee. I pondered for a while whether to buy a separate grinder and espresso machine but for me I think the hassle and mess would get a little tiresome.

Anyone else here have one?

Just got an Aeropress and made my first coffee with it using the inverted method. Very nice it was indeed. Now to add it to the various ways I have of making coffee.

I've had time to play with my KG79 and now have the grind setting spot on, in fact, I may need to adjust the coarseness setting back a notch as I don't think it will grind coarse enough for my cafetiere.

On a side note I was given a tin of Illy over Christmas and having used it years ago with my old Gaggia I was expecting reasonable results.

Are they grinding their coffee coarser these days?

No matter how I tamped the grounds there was no way to get a decent shot, the water simply flushed through with little resistance. I certainly won't be buying another tin especially since I have this grinder working well.

If you buy through amazon (best to buy direct TBH as the others have said) check the roasting date (bottom of the bag) Rave ship the beans the day they are roasted, unless you bought some on the black Friday deal, took 10 days from ordering to being received. :(

I blame the post that time round though.
