Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

Newbie here... Bought an Aeropress and have also ordered some ground from hasbean (http://www.hasbean.co.uk/collection...hoeira-da-grama-yellow-bourbon-pulped-natural).... I assume I am correct in that I ordered the filter ground?

Yup. Good choice with Fazenda Cachoeira. I've just finished my 4th bag of it in 3 weeks.... Need to get some more now. ;)

Using the filter grind, you'll need to use the inverted method of using the aeropress to get the right extraction.

Check out www.brewmethods.com aeropress section for the inverted method.

Thanks, what would i buy to use the Aeropress 'normally' as a matter of interest?

Well, i've finally got through all 200 paper filters i had for my clever dripper so laziness and necessity mean i'm onto using the v60 for my coffee needs, which isn't a bad thing - good to play around with another method properly :)

Also got a set of digital scales, something i've never really been to bothered about (but the misses wanted them for bread making) so I'm not ultra exact - 20g of coffee, 30ml water & 30seconds for the bloom, 270ml more water over 2min.
Lovely :D

This is a good place to have a decent coffee if you are ever in Lincoln

I have been there a number of times when I visited friends and relatives in the area.

It is a really quirky place and a lovely bunch of people.

Only downside is when it gets busy be prepared to wait a while.

There is also Stokes coffee which is pretty decent as well (Although they do tend to do dark roasts rather than a medium/light roast)

I went in there as well. Not as good as Coffee Aroma, but you in their main shop & its like stepping back in time (40's background music, old fashioned waitress uniforms) I don't mind the darker roast coffees either, as long they don't burn them to a crisp like certain chain coffee shops do. ;)

To be honest, I think the inverted method is the best method, so I'd describe it as "normal". If you didn't want to use the inverted method though, you'd need a grind that is finer than filter, but not as fine as espresso. It's easiest to buy the beans and grind them yourself, but if you can't do that, the filter grind should be fine.

I've still not got around to using my clever dripper. I'm far too busy trying to sort out a good espresso pull (bottomless portafilter is fun!) and getting micro foam (which I am failing badly at :( ). I might try it out later...

Broke out the clever dripper last night, had the grind too fine but wasn't too bad. Got it much closer this morning and it's a lovely cup of coffee. I still prefer this and the Aeropress over an espresso based americano. After reading the coffee forums it seems that is to be expected. It's fun playing with all the different methods and all the different techniques for each of them!

Im really liking the Aeropress makes such a good mug of coffee.

I started using the inverted method but gone to the normal way round and there is no difference IMO. Maybe its because i grind my own beans, about two turns out on the hario grinder.

Im using the filters a few times each as well i cant bring myself to bin them each time.

I find quite a difference using the inverted method, you control the brew time. I use quite a fine grind and depending on the coffee sometimes less water which I then dilute in cup. Basically you get to play around a lot more when inverted :)

I control the brew time the right way up, tip water in stir, leave for 30 seconds then start pushing slowly, the perfect brew.

The normal (i.e. non-inverted) to me doesnt seem to make much sense. I've always used inverted since I got an aeropress, I tried the 'normal' way once and then switched.

I use a fairly fine grind on my MC2, about 17g of beans, 250ml water for 1m30-2mins, then about a 30s push. Make up the mug with water and either add milk or not depending on how I feel :)

Worked well for me, the age of the beans definitely makes a difference though! Found an older Hasbean pack (late Sept roast) and can definitely tell the difference to the new batch I've had through.

But can you brew for 1-2 minutes without it seeping out when it isn't inverted? Using it inverted, I like to alter the grind and the brew time to see how the taste differs.

I dont see why not. The number two from the World Aeropress Championshipsip does the normal way and 3 minute brew time.

I alter the grind depending on the beans but the time stays at 30 seconds.

Hello Everyone!

Unfortunately we do not have good news to report. At the beginning of December our COO informed us that, effective immediately and with no notice, she would be leaving the company and taking most of our team with her. Since then she's been radio silent. This halted the progress the company was making, and left us reeling.

We explored our legal options, started a search for a new team, and reached out to our existing investors to get a bridge round together. Even though they were very supportive, at the end of the day, we were not able to get a big enough bridge round together to move forward. While we've looked into several other financing options, after serious consideration, we reached the decision to shut the company down. We are currently ending all operations.

It was an incredibly difficult choice to make, given the funds, effort, and time put into the company. We have poured 3+ years of our lives and all our personal savings into ZPM, because we believed -- and still do -- that there is a huge need in the market for what we're doing, and that we've made an amazing product that can get the job done.

We deeply regret that it's coming to an end in this way, especially given how painfully close we are to completion. However we want you to know that you have been incredible backers, and it has been an absolute honor to be working on your behalf and have you guys behind us. Your support and expertise was invaluable, and we wouldn't have gotten nearly as far as we did without everyone's support and advice. Thank you for believing in us -- we are very sorry to disappoint.

The vast majority of the funds have been spent on development and inventory, and we will most likely be unable to offer refunds. However, we are currently having conversations with several other parties to see if we can't create a situation where your pledges are still honored and you guys get something for all your support of this project. Please stay tuned -- we will keep you up-to-date on this front in the coming month, and very much hope to see a silver lining come out of it.

If nothing does, then we will be pushing out as much as we can, and open-sourcing and releasing all our designs and code. Either way, we will also later be putting out information on the financials and challenges we faced that we were unable to openly discuss before.

Thank you all very much. Working on this project was the most ambitious and meaningful undertaking any of us have ever attempted. Getting to know all of you, and working to create some seriously cool technology was one of the most rewarding things we've ever done. We are deeply and truly sorry that despite our best efforts, we were not able to get this machine across the finish line.

what's ks policy on this? It met it's goal and yet they aren't going to deliver, is it a case of charge back with through the credit card company or paypal? Or have people lost their money?

I didn't back this btw
