Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

Out of the two (Foundry & Rave) I prefer the latter. I'm on the 3rd bag of their espresso taster pack (three different blends) all have been good. I paid just over £14- for 750G of coffee beans delivered which I think is good value.

I'm thinking of cancelling my hasbean subscription after this month and trying out another roaster (nothing wrong with hasbean just want to try somewhere else).

Currently eyeing up the espresso subscripion from Rave - any other suggestions?

well thats disappointing - i was just listening to the freakanomics podcast about food and they mentioned that they had a post about the perfect cup of coffee on the blog:

http://freakonomics.com/2011/04/22/how-to-make-the-perfect-cup-of-coffee/

turns out it's basically a link to James Hoffman's blog (via Neil Stephenson and Chris Young - a Fat Duck Chef admittedly) which i'm pretty sure i've already posted somewhere in this thread...

Seen as this is the 'main' coffee thread, what are your brew methods for a french press? I've got my aeropress down to a tee, but it's not very suitable for when we have guests.

I've seen one that suggests 20g coffee to 300g water, does that sound about right? I've got a Baratza Encore and hve it dialled in to about 1.5 for my AP, but it goes up to about 30 (courser). Reckon about 20+ would work?

check out the link in my post directly above, essentially it loops you to this video here for a near perfect french press method:

Im wondering if any one has any recommendations for some coffee beans, I like to try many different types and wondered what else was out there i had not noticed.

My most notable favorites to date have been some blueberry blended flavors from has bean and kicking horses kick ass beans <--- realy enjoy this one.

I brew in a french press, drink it unsweetened and black. i like rich, smokey flavors and some complex fruity ones also but im open to try anything of note. I favor a good thick mouth feel which is a struggle without overdoing it on the amount of grinds on some beans, others just seem to lean towards a nicer mouth feel.
