Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

Thanks,
Simple Human : avoids need to regularly clean/empty a dedicated box .. but not sure bin would stand up to the blows and drips from portafilter (crossing room) would not be appreciated

Sage : 14.4 x 14.8 x 15.8 cm
Dreamfarm Grindenstein : 10.2 x 10.2 x 10.2 cm

...both similarly priced/sized ... I will think
(after recently reading an article about fertilizing characteristics of pucks have broken up a few across the top of potted herbs)

I was being a little facetious - there are obvious advantages to knock boxes:

- No sweaty bins from the hot puck
- No burning your hand as you try and stop it dripping onto the floor
- Easy to collect for compost and other random home projects

What I like about the Sage knock box are

1 - It's square...yeah I know, but being square it's easier to put to a corner of the kitchen
2 - rubber bottom, so it won't slip or damage work top
3 - right height, it fits under the portafilter, on the drip tray on the classic so saves room when I am not using it.

I have a grindstein knock box and I cant fault it, takes a battering and is also handy location for teabags instead of dripping across the kitchen with them.

pop it in the dishwasher and it comes out like new.

seems like most of the knock boxes are not so big (versus 1L juice container I currently use), my main annoyance will be having to clean them out every couple of days (just discovered why I often have wet pucks which does not help ejection , I had changed to a larger 18g basket with new machine that I usually/intentionally under-dose so water left on topic of puck after brew finish)

Motta seems most attractive, however if you hit its metal body (DT's too much coffee) versus sage/Grindstein contenders might scar it versus a hard plastic (sage build not 100% clear from Amazon reviews)

What would be a good upgrade from my cheap French press to make mostly 1 mug of coffee? Aeropress or chemex? I don't have a grinder yet but will eventually so pre ground for the time being. Also recommendations for coffee from has bean?

Aeropress or V60 for 1 cup, Chemex for 2+ imo

indeedy - french press can be very good but you'll get a better result generally from either. As to which out of aeropress or pour over its very much down to preference.

You seem to get different flavour profiles between them, each highlighting certain nuances of the beans or blends.

The aeropress tends to bring much more of the deep rich espresso like flavours with a thicker texture (wot ) and pour over gives a 'cleaner' drink bringing out the slightly lighter subtle fruity notes.

Went to Rave today as i was in the area and picked up some beans. While I was there waiting for the guy to package some up for me there were 2 guys at the roaster (lower down) section of the premises practicing making latte art. Pretty much pulling shots after shots and frothing pints of milk back and forth and then just chucking it straight into a bucket...I actually said as a joke "that's a shame! What a waste" he then offered me the bucket and a straw lol

what beans do you recommend from Rave ? (I have been loyal to Signature for last couple of months)
it is always a problem comparing coffees no ? given coffee bean lifespan difficult to have more than a couple on the go to make good comparisons, made more complex by flavour differences due to shot inconsistencies (until I perfect the Art) not like wine or whisky, say, in this respect.

I've just finished a bag of Fudge Blend, lovely and smooth, and I've just had my first cup of Mocha Blend, prefer this one, still nice and smooth but has a richer flavour.

I'm feeling horribly torn, on one hand i want to drink more coffee during the day and on the other more than two cups of the usual strength goodness leaves me jittery and feeling off - do I abandon all reason a buy some decaf of just mtfu and drink more espresso...
