Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

The Rave signature blend is lovely. Probably a great starting point. I'd buy that (or another blend) and then pick one or two that just sound good to you. I doubt you'll go far wrong.

I'd go for a blend first of all, and if you like it then try some of the single origins that has a similar profile. I've just had Nicaragua Finca La Argentina from Rave and it was really nice, got some Brazil Fazenda Cachoeira coming from Hasbean tomorrow :D

My post went missing at end of thread - any recommendation for where to source a replacement gaggia classic steam valve?

from what your saying i'm not certain its your wand as such but rather something further up the system.

This site: http://www.gaggia-parts.co.uk/ seems to have pretty much everything you could need as well as a good pdf exploded view that may help you work out where the leak is acutally coming from...

I've really taken a fancy to the new Baratza Sette 270, anyone seen any UK pricing/availability yet?

Saw it at the London Coffee Festival. It's lovely. Pretty interesting design for straight through grinding too.

Price... Well, It's going to be around $380 in the US, so priced about $50 above the Preciso. In the UK the Preciso is £380... so maybe £400 at the low end if we're lucky.

Aeropress arrived today (thank you Amazon prime) however the coffee didn't, even though I chose 1 day delivery (disappointing Rave). So I had to make do with some Costa ground (yeah, I know, but I wanted something to try it with!)

Have to say I'm really impressed. So simple and quick to use. I've been using a Tassimo for my single cup needs at home, but this was just as easy (and cheaper and better for the environment) and made a much nicer cup of coffee!

Looking forward to the Rave stuff to arriving on Monday.

I'd +1 on the MC2. I don't think the Dualit will be a) fine and b) consistent enough for good espresso. However, if you can get a classic (£100-200 second hand, depending on accessories+mods) you could always try it with it.

If you find it's not great - sell it and buy an MC2, mignon, encore or similar.

My gaggia classic steam valve is dripping quite badly during heating, and pouring whilst making espresso. Where's the cheapest source for a replacement part?

I have this issue with mine. I have actually replaced my steam wand with a silva steam wand from happy donkey I think for £11 or so. I think I have a seal inside the unit that needs replacing but that would require the machine to be taken to pieces to investigate.
