Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

There are a couple of mods to that grinder which give it much more consistent grind size. I have two grinders - electric burr grinder set up for machine espresso, and that Hario for French press. I don't mind the manual grind on a slow Sunday afternoon when making a whole pot :)

I also appreciate not having to change settings on anything!

This seems entirely pointless using the Hario for French press given it's pretty naff for making coffee and the whole point of the Hario is to get a good, consistent grind for something like actual filter V60, Aeropress. I can only assume the beans you use are fairly generic and you don't mind over extraction and bitter coffee...which begs the question why you'd use whole beans in the French press in the first place. Also modding it when you're using it for French press seems again, largely pointless.

My Hario mini mill is broken from loads of use and I bought it when they weren't stupidly costly. I replaced it with the De'Longhi KG79 but I'm finding it extremely messy and not actually all that consistent or precise. I'm always adjusting my grind though because I use a mix of V60, Aeropress and CleverDripper along with always changing beans week-on-week so dialling in each bean for maximum flavours takes a bit of work and I'm not sure the KG79 is quite up to the precise grind I'm wanting.
It's so messy which really is a massive downfall of it. It's got loads of security features to stop you grinding your fingers but it just doesn't contain the grind well enough when moving grind into the basket, fine grind ends up being thrown around on the worktop.
The grinder I now want is £100 or so, more grind control and much less messy as I recall from seeing it in action at a coffee event.

Which grinder are you looking at?

I've been looking the Wilfa Silver - https://www.coffee-box.co.uk/wilfa-...f2Vx6Au1uK2GWEhFkv1QyujTlWroMGyRoC77IQAvD_BwE

Hah very close, the Wilfa Svart / Black. - https://www.wilfa.co.uk/product/kitchen/black-aroma/ ( https://www.coffee-box.co.uk/wilfa-precison-coffee-grinder.html - for your linked website ).

What I'd really like is the Uniform - https://www.wilfa.co.uk/product/kitchen/uniform-coffee-grinder/ however that's over £300...but it does include scales so I guess you save a touch on those. :D

I could have bought the Svart for about £80 at the coffee event or even the Uniform for something like £250 but I didn't really fancy spending the money at the time. Now I regret not getting the Svart then, although I have seen it around £90-£110 in places (most out of stock at the moment) so it's not too much more than I could have bought previously.

Belle Barista have got some stock of the cheaper PL62S in, so trying to cancel my order with caffeeitalia. You can by the wood trim parts to replace the plastic parts. Also discovered you can install the paddle flow profiling valve from the Bianca on the Mara. Might be something to look into down the line...

paddle upgrades interesting ... thought that would be a custom head on the e61.
someone on here has posted pictures of the wood paddle version ..... wonder if the paddle panned out ?

I've had a right faff with my order, but turns out the PL62 deluxe I ordered is already en route, arriving tomorrow. Just sticking with that, provided it arrives in one piece :p I do have some other kit arriving today though

Just need the machine to fill the gap :) Already had the  from the other half...but that's why I got the separate grinder for filter, so no need to for messing about with the grind. Only complain with the Eureka is that it needs more than a full revolution to go from espresso to filter grinds, and you can't tell which turn you're on.

... yes the paddles not cheap
- the grinders look like twins ...tampers on it's way ?

Rocky grinder is too sensitive, for grind adjustment , you rotate by 40mm at hopper edge espresso->filter, and espresso adjustment can be 2mm, which will modify extraction by 5-10s;
however, in terms of engineering, having brass burr carrier, with a very fine pitch, is expensive to manufacture, and may become a reliability concern,
- not sure what you have to pay for a grinder with a stepper motor/servo.

Lovely coffee corner there, like the live edge shelf

Sounds you probably wanted the Eureka Perfetto from the sounds of it, or even the Niche - Perfetto seems to be a single turn between espresso and pour over (https://www.eureka.co.it/en/catalogo/prodotti/macinacaffè+istantaneo/1/21.aspx)

It is a nice little corner, sadly only temporary as this is a rental. I was a day away from exchanging on a house when the lockdown started (doh), and that place has a tiny kitchen, I'll need to install some shelving to accommodate it, provided the sale still goes through.

Could have got a single grinder, but this avoids grief. Other half is fine with my hobbies, smart lights etc, as long there's a simple way for her to still use stuff. I can just leave the Filtro set up for filter, and save the Silenzio for my fiddling with espresso grinds. Filtro has a different burr designed for filter grinds too.

I also really like that both of them are fully manual. I don't like buying things with integrated electronics if I can avoid it.

Just got 10l of Ashbeck water and some whole milk. All set for espresso time tomorrow :)

Didn't like having the grinder above it chucking grinds all over it. More room here too, and it looks great in the sun.

Need to work on my steaming...
