Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

I decided to get the Sage Oracle Touch. It arrives tomorrow :D Hoping it's a good upgrade from my Delonghi ECAM 44.660.B. Already pick it up some fresh beans from the local independent coffee house so ready to go on another coffee adventure!

... suppose I'm confused about their range - the oracle touch is >£1K , but is/isn't their latest dual boiler ? which I thought were similarly priced.

e: although, my coffee machine has an attached energy meter and it's running cost at the moment is up there.

The Oracle touch is their top of the range one with the newest tech, including dual boiler. I've made quite a few coffees with it now and it's an incredible piece of kit. Coffees are much better than the previous machine.

Forgive my ignorance if you posted earlier, but why did you decide to go this route versus something like a Niche Zero and a Lelit Bianca? Was it looks, counter space, ease of use?

It's a combination of all of them to be honest. I love coffee but it's not a "hobby" so I just want a machine that takes the guesswork / craft out of it all but produces great coffee. I'm fully expecting £2000 spent on enthusiast products to deliver a better result but for me, this machine is a great blend of quality and convenience.

Definitely understand that approach, it's like a massively better version of Nespresso and gives you flexibility on quality and fresh beans. Hope you enjoy it.

anyone ever managed to knock over a (Hario V60) pour over when making a coffee? ****** pantomime!

had the V60 right next to the gas hob and managed to knock it off the cup just after blooming...impressive coverage over the worktop and hob :p

trying to wipe up spilt grounds is not fun...reminded me of this...

If we're talking drama... Poured the water into the grinder not the coffee maker, while sleepy and stressed.

I have never take an appliance apart and cleaned it so fast!

Poured the water into the grinder not the coffee maker,
indeed I've nearly done that -when waters run out during shot, with dash to the tap for a refill, put it down to age;
portafilter blowing off and dropping onto cup, or, ejecting basket into knock bin , are the regular suspects.

Threw a puck from an aeropress to the bin across the cafeteria (~2.5m) at work. Turns out centrifugal force is quite good at dispersing wet coffee grind.

Putting my mokka pot down on the kitchen worktop after pouring the coffee left a lovely black mark :( We had the kitchen done a couple of years later, so long enough for the reminder to sink in that I've never done it again.

Can't say I've had any dramas....don't think there's any way to screw anything up with the Mara. E61 head is super solid needs a good solid turn to seat so that ain't coming off.

Forgetting to tamp is probably the only fail....and that's just a fast water sour shot that goes in the bin.

Did have a drama last week when it got to Friday and realised we might run out of beans at the weekend. Ordered from 47 degrees at 0730....guy personally delivered it at 0930 as he was in the village delivering to a restaurant.....service!

looks like you can try the sprover craze with the oracle dual boiler to give hario style coffee - low pressure profile (app controlled ! it appears) with a long pull time

....or, same with the paddle/flow option on a lelit - if I had the money for an ek43 grinder - unique design style.

So should I stay away from pact? Looking at going down an aeropress route rather than replacing my smashed cafetière.

It’s just me who drinks coffee and we haven’t really got room for a machine.
