Why are you selling yours Mark? If you don't mind me asking
I've been brewing via Chemex for the last two weeks and it really makes an outstanding cup!! So different to Aeropress- slightly 'lighter' in texture if that is the word and more aromatic, you can really identify the different flavours more easily in the Chemex.
I got the 3-6 cup size one with the circle filters. The filters take up a lot of space so will go for the cone ones next I reckon.
3-6 cup one is a decent size for what I needed
One thing I have noticed with this bean is that if it is left in the french press for more than say 3-4 minutes my usual sort of brewing time it gets that instant harsh bitter taste of being over brewed.
Are there any reccommendations on how long it should be brewed for I am assuming that a more suitable time may be 2-3 minutes.
Again I guess this comes down to the trial and error aspect of looking for that perfect cup.
Do you find the chemex hard to clean as Flibster mentioned that keeping the wood/leather clean might be a problem?
Hope you don’t all mind some minor thread hijacking, but I know there’s a few mad coffee bods on this forum and I didn’t want to start a whole new post topic.
The company I work for is launching the UK’s first ever week long celebration of coffee next week (4th-10th) called (surprise, surprise) UK Coffee Week. This also links into our charity initiative called Project Waterfall which this year is partnered with WaterAid to bring clean drinking water to Tanzanian communities.
I’ll keep it short as you can find out what events are happening across the UK during UK Coffee Week by visiting the website www.ukcoffeeweek.com
For those of you in and around London (or mad enough about coffee to travel there) there’s also The London Coffee Festival, which is a 3 day weekend festival of coffee being held at The Old Truman Brewery, Brick Lane (Fri 8th-Sun 10th). It is ticketed entry (£8.50 per person, under 15’s free with an adult) but 100% of the ticket sales go straight to the charity There’ll be coffee from all over the world, barista demos, a guinness world record attempt, food (including a hog roast), live music (headlining with some bloke from XFactor), art exhibitions, even some tea to sample if you get all coffee’ed out! You can find out who and what else will be there at www.londoncoffeefestival.com
If that wasn’t enough incentive I can even give everyone a nice little discount code: TSVIP1 that’ll get you £2.50 off each ticket purchased. Feel free to spread the code around, it all goes to charity so the more the merrier!
Sorry again for the brief pimping, hope to see you there! Tim
pretty much - your one excuse is that instant has pretty much nothing to do with real coffee so really you just don't like coffee full stop, just some caffeinated hot drink...
We have movement!
Coffee is officially cuisine!

A small dial on the top front left corner is used to adjust the grind, it's about the easiest thing to do on the machine! You can also adjust the timer for each grind (you can grind by pressing the portafilter against the switch or use a timed grind) which is a bit more awkward as it's on the bottom of the unit. Once you have the timer set though, you shouldn't need to adjust it again so it isn't really a problem.Nice. Reviews for the Mignon are limited but they all seem good. How easy do you find altering the grind coarseness?

OK guys I have a question - can anyone recomend a £100 grinder that will happily adjust from cafeteria all the way down to espresso?
My faithful recommendation of a Iberital MC2 isn't going to cut it for this kind of application unfortunately
Not been using it as much as I'd like but I know I won't be able to get as much as I'd like for it.....
I'm in exactly the same boat to be honest.
