Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

I have a pair of "Eddingtons Mini Measure" glasses; bought them for about 3 quid each from Sainsbury but are probably available cheaper elsewhere!

Have ounces, ml etc.

Thanks, these fit !

As I'm a slave to HasBean, I have these. I like them :)

How tall are these? could you measure them for me?

Bought these today from a charity shop, 1.50 for the lot, bargain!

I've got so many keep cups at home. All 8oz ones too. I mainly use them for storing Kalita Wave filters in. Keeps them nicely tight so they don't flatten out.

Never really liked using them for drinks as I tend to use ceramic cups for takeout. I've got a 'not a paper cup' and a couple of decent stainless steel vacuum cups. The ceramic one is ok for around 45 minutes, but the metal ones have kept coffee at a drinkable temperature for well over 6 hours when I used a couple of joulies with them. Brilliant.

I have a "not a paper cup" cup.

Not really a fan as the lid is white silicon, (it is a Starbucks replica) so it stains.

I have another one that is similar with a black hard plastic lid, much better but still the lid is valnerable to fall out if tip upside down and the content everywhere.

I have 2 old starbucks stainless steel cups, both keep content hot for ages but the best of the 2 is my older one, it has a leather mid band for holding, the base is soft plastic/rubber act like a coaster and the opening is a metal run pull. It has never leaked and very safe.

The other one has leaked a couple of times if I close it when it is boiling hot and the pressure causes coffee to come out if tipped upside down.

I also have a thermos which is amazing. Again, old starbucks stock that they dont' make anymore.

am addicted to frappucino lately ;)

are there any small size grinders that are worth considering ?
I have asked for grinders earlier, and am watching some on ebay, but would like something smaller..
is this one really so bad ?

thanks

For espresso grinding on the same sort of spend, you'd be far better off with a decent Porlex or Hario hand grinder. The one you linked to is not that bad for coarse grinding but won't allow you to adjust much at the espresso end.

I don't mind hand grinders so will have a look for ones you mentioned.

having option to adjust how fine/coarse grind is is desirable ;)

Thanks

As said a hand grinder would be better however to really have the amount of control one needs for espresso, you're going to need a decent electric burr grinder (e.g. an ibertal mc2 minimum).

It can be a hard pill to swallow (my other half thought why would anyone spend 100 gbp just to grind beans), but with a good grinder you are likely to keep it for a rather long time.

space is more of an issue then the price....dont have enough space have it in the kitchen...

I've had mine for 6 years now.

I also have a Zassenhaus, last of their stock just before they went bust and you know what, it was never used since the thought of grinding beans every time was erm....too much effort lol

They go for silly money now on eBay for a new unused one, worth more than my ibertal mc2.

Hmm, that is a pain!

Have you seen a domestic burr grinder in person? I hope that doesn't sound patronising. Only reason I ask is that a decent domestic grinder (e.g. I have a eureka mignon) is much smaller then the grinders you will typically see in a cafe (e.g. mazzer etc.).

I have a tiny kitchen and managed to fit one in, I just turn it flush against the wall when it isn't being used.

Do you have any rarely used appliances wasting space (e.g. blender?) maybe you could move it into a cupboard. :)

EDIT: In other news; I am home alone today (no partner or baby around) and so have been dialling in my new beans. I have had about 8 ounces of espresso and am bouncing off the walls!
