Silverstone SG08

Annoyingly the price has now gone back up to just under £180.

Especially as I had been waiting for 2 days now for the "due today" status to change to in stock so I can order the whole of my new build at the same time so it arrives at the same time!

Ah thats annoying. It still says due today but I seriously doubt that they are getting a late night delivery so looks like I won't be getting my Friday delivery and I bet it will come on Saturday when I am out all day and then won't be able to collect it till Monday

ITS HERE! Words cannot describe how much better than the SG07 the new faceplate is. Also it comes with a USB3 header to USB2 header adapter thank god! Photos when I get back from work.

Right photos are uploading now. At first glance this is just a simple facelift for the SG07. On cracking it open they have pretty much solved every issue with the SG07:

Poorly sheathed PSU power cable? - Solved! It now sports a properly moulded and safe attachment so no more exposed 240V cable.
Cant access the PCI-e holder without removing the power socket? - Solved! the retention bracket now has a clear gap allowing you to remove PCI-e cards without having to unscrew the power socket.

So quite frankly with USB 3.0 I would certainly recommend this over the SG07 now.

Purdy.

Uploading photo of the improved power socket now. Seems Virgin have nerfed uploads as it is the afternoon, jerks.

Yeah staff price! Well i've ordered it!

You won't be disappointed it is pretty damn good and much improved over the SG07

Anyway what about the AXP-140 would that fit in ok? Ive just bought that so dont fancy changing cooler again (im sure it will looking by the pictures

Yes the AXP-140 will fit but you either have to mount a 140mm fan off center or use a 120mm fan which is what I am doing. The Viper I have on cools as well as the TY-140 I was using before and is only slightly more noisy.

Mine arrived today along with a load of other bits and pieces :)

Have just put it all together, but I need help. I forgot to put the back silver plate on, so need to unscrew motherboard... however I can't unscrew motherboard as AMD 6950 over it.

Problem is, I cant remove the AMD 6950, the catch to release it is pointing into the caseand blocked off by cpu/cooler.

How do i release the gfx card!

What pyropetepete said and I learnt that lesson a long time ago and now the first thing I do when I get any mobo is remove that dumb catch. What a useless invention.

Ive changed my mind!

The 180mm fan is crap and there specs are not true at all! I can no longer sleep due to this item going off at speed!

Correct, get a TY-140 and hook it up to the PWM headers on your mobo.

PSU i think is pants, i was getting spikes all over.

Correct, get a BeQuiet BN188 and shorten the cables

HD LED cable but where is the HD LED, tried every combo no go. FAIL.

Who uses an HDD LED? But you are infact incorrect there are two LEDs evenly spaced between the single hole if you unplug your power LED you will see the HDD LED flickering away but seriously who needs an HDD LED? If it really bothers you use one or the other.

Optical drive looks gash just sat there, flap or stick on be good!

Correct, sadly thats a fact of slimline drivebays I have yet to find a way of doing a stealth mod for one.

Cables really could be shorter as to a mile long!

Correct, see above re. PSU.

There is more! It's taller than specs and doesn't fit my unit! With this and the other issues present it's going back i think on Tuesday

Just measured mine and its about 3mm shy of the 190mm specs so mine is shorter. Also if you are leaving such a small amount of room for clearance above the computer you are doing it wrong as that is where the main air intake is, I would strongly recommend leaving lots and lots of space above the computer.

The other change i made was to remove the reset full from the case, gash!

I can't multi quote for some reason, sorry

Yeah I removed that too if I want to do a hard reset I just hold the power button does the same damn thing and removes two wires.

The TY-140 is an awesome 140mm fan and it uses 120mm mounting points, super quiet and pushes good air. I don't think I have ever used a computer case with stock fans they are always the first parts to be changed.

The cables yes are stupidly long but that is almost certainly a cost thing and doing a run of shorter cables just for 2 case models is probably not very cost effective but it isn't hard to either shorten them or cable tie them up out of the way.

Your PSU must be a dud as that PSU is normally very well reviewed so I would suggest an RMA at the very least.

I have no idea how yours is 10mm taller than the stated specs?
