sim city 4

NOOOOOO

I just got this out and was just about to take a screen shot of a 40min old city covering over half the map :( and it crashed. i didn't even save it.

It's fairly easy.

add a coal power plant in the corner.
Then build roads. With 5x5 spaces in-between.
Corner with power plant build heavy industrial. Then 1 line of heavy commercial,. then on the other side heavy houses.

build water towers at precisely the right distant to start with. When you get profit knock these down and put a line at the edge. Then use pipes to circulate. Then just add water treatment, fire, education ect as the moan. Accept all the air bases, prisons ect ect, But place them on the other end of the map with some windmills and one water tower.

It tends to go wrong after about 2 hours generally as commute times become a problem and demand tends to stagnate ramdomly.

Well got rush hour and it makes the whole game easier somehow as before i sucked at cities ut who knows.. anyway my first two money making (just) cities !!

Hi guys I have been playing around with this but just cant seem to get the population up and any substantial skyscrapers. I have created different regions, one for heavy industry, one for hightech, one for the rich and just another town of 100,000 to support my main city. However my main city wont go above 160,000 and I dont have any substantial skyscrapers (and I want the mega towers!)

Can anyone help? I have tried looking on the site rcommended earlier but the advice I kind of already worked out/is for beginners.

Desireability?
If desirability is fine: You may need to raise your population cap, this is done by parks, rewards, etcetc...

Aside that, in the late game it takes awhile for new stuff to devellop, mainly due to the game's engine...

Also make sure commute time is good enough...

Just been playing around, btw later in the game you will come to a point where you just want to create ncie stuff not just fill the map with scyscrapers...

Here's 2 pics of one of my city's.
I didnt cheat at all but it's heavily modded though my game...

i got into sim city 4 for a few months

found the best way to start was a cross road, police fire primary and high school library and hospital(all large). box it in then build a decent area of housing. hit super speed. for a min or so. then drop all the funding on the buildings to just cover. build some insudstry and shops then jus wait a bit. make surepeople got power and water.

its a good idea to do the above 2 or 3 times in ares surrounding ** chosen region then connect to thesewith a road. its gets morepeople and trade.

Just installed this myself and have one major issue with it (major to me anyway).

Is there anyway at all to switch gridlines on while building/planning your city? Right now the gridlines only appear around my cursor (radious is about 3-4 squares which doesnt cut it) and I am finding it increasingly difficult and frustrating not being plan out my city like I would in Simcity 2000+3000. It is really putting me off to the point where I am about to uninstall the game.

If you dont know what I mean by gridlines check:

I've searched through all the options that I can find and still cant find it. I've also tried looking for various plug-ins/mods to no avail so now its at the point where I am about to uninstall because I find the game unplayable without the gridlines.

Does anyone find this game runs like a dog on dual core? and is there a widescreen patch available anywhere?

Just dusted this off the shelf and yes Dual core gaming with this game is pants.

It just judders around the screen, it was silky smooth on my old Athlon Xp 2400 Mobile Barton rig with 512mb of ram and Nvidia 6800le 128mb.

I'm currently using AMD x2 3800 @ 2.6, 2Gb Ram, x1900 xt 512mb and its a dog !

I'll try putting in my old 146 optty tonight and report back, it may just not like dual core rigs which is a pain.

Same as others, since reading this thread I will have to re-install it all over again. I got the bug.

WoW will have to wait a while.

I shall try to make a rural country side region, if its possible. Keeping the tall buildings to a minimum.

I do hope when they make a new one they add the ability to make it more organic/natural. Curved roads/streets etc

Where, when you start a new city, do you put your House and other early gifts? I used to put my house in a newly built up posh area.

I tend to place the Majors house in the middle of the map surrounded by nice parks grass trees and libraries. They really really like living near libraries for some reason ! within a short while most residential areas around then turns into high cost zones.

Depends on what gifts You get really, things like confrence centres are best placed near airports, then you wanna build lost of commercial offices arounds them. Commercial zones like to have plaza type parks built around them.

I've never really got rail to work ever, think its broken. They just never ever wanna use it. Freight is OK but passangers is a no no.

Most of my citys tend to do well, Just cant do the "You drive it missions" as its so jerky is unplayable, which is a shame as thats how you get most of your rewards.

I need to get this now, used to love sim city 2000, and started playing sim city on my phone yesterday lol... I'm hooked again.

lol i just isntalled this game this morning, have already made a nice city with about 35,000 people living there in about an hour. I dont understand how people can make there cities look as nice as snowdogs though
