sim city 4

lol i just isntalled this game this morning, have already made a nice city with about 35,000 people living there in about an hour. I dont understand how people can make there cities look as nice as snowdogs though

Snowdogs got many mods in that pic, like the crazy upside down Y building and the horse shoe type laybys and roundabouts. Also the freeway underpass is a mod as I'm sure you want do that in the game as well as the sloping sides up to his main land level fromthe freeway. Tasty looking mods I may have to investigate these.

Its not that great looking really, To make it look that nice you jsut gotta keep redeveloping and improving, mix and match is the key.

If you build it they will come !

Might have to get into Sim City again, i think ive got 4 somewhere at home. Been ages since ive played it.

How resource heavy is it?
I'd be looking at running a 1920x1200 on a X2 3800, X800XL 256Mb, 2Gb ram. Possible?

Max it will run at is 1600* 1200, but as I said earlier its a dog on Dual core systems ! not sure why !

It specs should run it really well but then so should mine ! but it runs like a dog.

there are/were issues with ATi and the lack of "backflipping" or something. Used to get about 10-15fps on an X1800 and a AMD 3200. Seems to run much better on new rig but still struggles a bit occasionally. Don't think the graphics are proper 3D so might be the way that new cards handle bitmaps or whatever they use to generate the scenery etc.

I really need to get Rush Hour and try SC4 again. I prefer SC3k as its just one big map with everything there instead of being split up.

widescreen is possible, you need to edit the cmd line.
I dont mind running it in a 1600x1200 window tbh.
In fact, for games like SimCity, i'd prefer to be able to run it in a window.:).

this may be the stupidest thing anyone has said (genuinly, i have no idea) but there are programs which fail on Dual Core that you can fix (short term) by opening task manager (ctrl alt delete), going to the process and right click, set affinity to Core 1 or Core 0 (doesnt matter which)

Give it a go anyway.

SC4 doesn't run like a dog on dual core systems, ran fine here for 2 years or so on a hyper threaded p4 with affinity to both threads, and now works fine on my pentium d, also with affinity to both cores...

It loads the buildings a bit slow for 1st time if you mean that, but thats a graphics matter, also once they're loaded they'll stay loaded for the remainder of the game aslong as you have enough RAM to cope...

I got this today because of this thread, and I made the little tutorial city i'm not sure if i like it as much as i did sc2000, I'm not into this whole micromanagement thing... I dont like the way it puts roads in for you :(

Need to get the tutorials done i guess make sure I know all the extra stuff they put in.

Sim City 2000 was the best god sim ever. I fail at these games cause i just cant be bothered to deal with things like "public transport funding" and other such council-esque work. I want a sim where if i put a bus stop in, buses stop at it. I'm so shallow.

I have never been able to build a successful profitable city in any SimCity game (despite being pretty good at the Railroad Tycoon type of game).

Good job I didn't embark on a career in town planning, then.

My city got pretty big, around 100,000 people with loads of tall apartment buildings and loads of industrial bits aswell, only problem i have is traffic, its at rock bottom, nearly every road is red when you want to see how bad it is, ive got crap loads of bus stops, made all my streets into roads and even got a subway (no room for highway) and its still bad, people started to leave because they couldnt get to work on time or it was too noisey so ive given up on this city, might start a new one later.

Woot, totally got into this now, once I did the tutorials on how to make a profitable city have got a slowly growing town of about 40,000 residents :)

Just need to check out the big city tutorial now :)

But I want to play it all the time :D

How do i run Sim City 4 in a window?
Been looking for hours, i wont start a game until ive found that out! :p

Im getting annoyed now.
Ive followed the guide on Simtropolis to making a small city, but for the life of me, even though there are power links between the two cities, i cannot get my residential city powered! :(.
