Sim racers - what are you running?

What do you good folks use for bass shakers?

I'd like to put shakers on each corner and one under the seat. I plan on getting 2 Simagic haptic motors for throttle and brake (my pedals are P2000)

I use the optical out on the PC mobo to a small amp for headphones. I'm thinking get a sound card with optical out- will any one do? I'd like to get Dayton BST-1 shakers (or the chinese clones) and I've seen the Slip Angle isolation mounts and mounts for the shakers to fit to them (they're actually HVAC isolaters which I found on Ali Baba for £6 each or so - I've asked the seller if the spring rate can be changed. The shaker mounts I've seen on Etsy)

What I'm not 100% on is what to use as an amp. Do I get one of the small ones? If I have 5 channels, what about the chinese receivers? I don't really want to spend loads on Behringer 3000Ds, I had a 6000D before which wasn't cheap.

I can’t help you much with what you’re looking at as I have a single buttkicker pro under my seat.

It might be worth checking out the Sim Hub Discord, they have quite a healthy (or unhealthy for your finances!) discussion on bass shakers.

My new kit has arrived :

- 49" Samsung 1000R curved monitor
- SimLab XP1 pedals
- GT Omega Adjustable Pedal plate

The wider monitor and significant curve definitely improves the immersion. I will probably get a heal plate for the pedals to improve the comfort.

100% you need a heel plate, I have those pedals and size 12 feet and there is no way I could have my feet rested on a plate that the pedals are mounted to they need to be raised up slightly.

So I had a spare old system doing nothing, ryzen 3700x and B450 mobo.
I've stuck 32Gb RAM in it and a 7900XTX, obviously the CPU is going to be holding the GPU back a little so I need to think about upgrading it.

My plan is to run triple 1440p in the very near future.
trying to decide if I just stick a 5700x3d in it or upgrade to AM5.

7500f is available from ali express for about £120, another £120ish for a board and £70ish for some ram.
£310 with an option to upgrade in future or £200 with no upgrade path

You can now pre order the new simagic Alpha evo wheelbases that come in 9 12 and 18nm

Pricing looks very competitive. All normal alpha bases have had a hefty price drop as well.

I'm ready to order one but I don't think you can front mount them even though it says you can. I can't see front mount holes in the pictures.

There's a separate adapter to front mount it
Where did you see that info?

Bit weird that it needs an adapter, just stick holes on the front like the old ones. Seems like a money grab, except the bases are all now really cheap, that could have priced them higher and still sold loads.

Edit £50, so £800ish for the 18nm base and FM bracket

Yes. Good you found the info.

Still a decent well priced wheelbase

I've been through most combinations of screens since the LFS days, (Triple 24, Rift 1, Rift S, 34" ultrawide) and have settled again back on triple 32" 1440p for my latest setup and I really think it's the sweet spot. Maybe poor eyesight and contact lenses was what really done it for me, but as good and immersive as VR was the FOV was the biggest killer. I've done 3 hour stints in the Rift S and it was fine, but with much less time to spend on sim racing now I find it far easier to jump in a 2d rig than VR.

Having 2 kids under 4 has pretty much taken me out of the loop for sim-racing over the last few years (and my irating plummeting from 5k to mid 3k), but I've been slowly getting myself back to a decent setup again after selling my Playseat Trophy and going for 8020:

Pro Simrig PSR3
Sparco Evo XL
Pro Simrig Triple stand but bolted directly to the chassis
Triple HP X32 (pretty good, 165hz, 1ms, not the best in the world but perfect for this)
Fanatec CSL DD
10 year old CSR Elite pedals, next on the upgrade list.

I do intend to build something similar to this for my son for maybe his 4th birthday or the following Christmas also: https://www.reddit.com/r/simracing/comments/ib76ph/custom_8020_kid_sim/

Great setup,

Couple questions:

1. Question for all really, does having a triple setup sim rig facing a corner work better then facing a flat wall or just personal preference and depends on room ?
2. What angle are your screens and what is the distance between them? Blue line on the photo. @deko

Thanks!

I have mine facing into a corner, it’s more about preserving space in the room rather than better. In an ideal world I’d have lots of room all around so I can always get to any part; working on the pedals is a pain!

I have curved triples, so quite a tight angle with a bezel free kit - I think it’s either 50 or 60 degrees. The blue line is 116cm.

It’s quite tight to get into but very immersive with an almost 180 degree vision.

Just installed a couple of bass shakers, one under the pedal base and one under the seat.
Connected up to a nobsound usb amp with built in sound card.
Running through simhub
What a game changer
I play mainly in VR, I can now feel every gear change, rumble strip, engine vibration and road vibrations.
Followed a YouTube video to get simhub dialed in. Fixing the speakers to my rig frame was quite straightforward with a 3d printed mount and cable ties for the under the seat speaker.
For under £90 a worth while upgrade

I run a pair of Dayton BST-2's, they are in incredible addition.

I'm not sure if it was a coincidence or not, but last weekend I was struggling to get a decent lap time together in practice, then realised I'd forgotten to turn the Nobsound amp on. Once I turned it on, I was orders of magnitude quicker.

I ended up bolting mine directly to the underside of the seat, it's pretty powerful. I don't feel the one under the pedals all that much, I may need to fiddle with that.
