Simple free cms

Glad to hear you got sorted. I'm trying to use c5 for everything going forward. I like the fact that I can use my limited PHP knowledge to add my own blocks of functionality if need be. The API documentation is just woeful.

I had some issues with updates but apparently they are introducing an automatic update service so at least won't take ages to ftp up about 15MB a time.

Let me know how you get on with it. Email in trust if you need any help!

I must admit that when I got c5 installed it looked much better than any other default CMS I've found. Clean and sharp looks which no other CMS has offered really.

I need to learn PHP/MySQL but I'm not going to be good enough to make my own CMS for ages yet, having the skills to tinker with a ready made CMS would be brilliant for me.

The automatic update sounds good, similar to Wordpress and most other CMS' I would have thought? I suppose c5 is just maturing in front of our eyes. :)

If I need help I'll be sure to give you a buzz. Thanks for the offer.

Once you get a theme created and uploaded with all its editable regions then it really is a breeze. Obviously an end user can still enter crappy content which will not help the look of things but a minimal theme with headers and navigation styling is very easy and quick.

I am the same with lack of PHP knowledge. I think having c5 as an application framework is good as you don't really need to worry about any security etc - you just write blocks. I have no clue about the database and what is stored where but hopefully will work it out.

Yep next versions are to have wordpress like updating. This will be awesome. Have fun!

The reason I need a CMS and not just a hard-coded XHTML/CSS site is in case I'm off ill for some reason and a colleague has to take over the site. It isn't that I'm the best person at XHTML/CSS at work; I'm the only one who knows what XHTML/CSS are and the only one who can code in either. :p

I'll set myself up as the super admin then give several colleagues who might have reason to update the site permissions to add/edit/delete content but not to change the layout/schemes etc. I'll be sure to leave my admin details around for my colleagues in case I end up under the bus home and not in it. :D

Yep give it a blast and see how it goes. Maybe give the advanced permissions a try as it gives you some extra control over who can do what.

Another good thing to check out is the scrapbook where you can copy content and then paste it onto numerous other pages.

Also, check out the page defaults settings. It allows you to add content to a page type and then anytime a new page is created using that page type then the content you added is part of the default. (maybe doesn't make sense yet!)
