Singapore Grand Prix 2011, Marina Bay Street Circuit - Race 14/19

It's not like Newey doesn't have a history of getting it right with rule changes. He normally nails it.

He did a good job with reg changes while at williams. Did a superb job with the mclarens with 98 reg changes. Did well in 09 and superbly in 2010.

I imagine the engines are far more worrying than what Neweys department will come up with to combat new rules.

I'm more concerned how sluggish Mclaren are constantly playing catch up since Newey left.

Totally agree with you

While Im sure its too late to do much about this year - Im sure the McLaren aero guys will at least take a good look at that video of the RB underside taken recently - might give them some ideas at the very least

Hey Danny didnt you know we are now virtually the Renault factory team :D

and it could cause them more headaches than they currently have..

I still think Ferrari are going to do something special in the next two years... just a gut feeling.

The way Hamilton is driving at the moment it looks like having other drivers on the track is a major inconvenience to him. Same with tyres going off or weather changing. He just drives like it is a series of 1 lap charges, and everyone else should get out of his way.

Personally I think he's lost belief in the car and has written this year off. This was typified in Singapore when he basically asked if it was worth carrying on. Nobody does that.

IMO he will settle down once the Mclaren is able to consistently compete for wins against Red Bull.

He's an old school driver that wants to drive every lap at 100% of the cars ability but F1 today is a game of micro management and doesn't reward being on the edge every lap, when he's got the right the car underneath him he won't need to overdrive and take silly risks so as not to not lose ground on Vettel.

He's had an absolutely horrid season this year but has still scored nearly as many points as Alonso, Button, Webber, that shows the talent he has... he just lacks a championship winning car that will allow him to win races whilst taking it easy (a la Vettel/RBR).

I guess you are, it certainly makes more financial sense for them to do that. Like most engine manufacturers they make better suppliers than when they try to run their own outfit.

It will be interesting to see which supplier gets the new engines right and reliable right away.

I agree with this, but is also why I've downgraded my opinion. I was really hoping that he would learn tactics and thinking from button. But he doesn't seem to. Which IMO means he won't be an all time great. Especially in this day and age, when there are so many outstanding drivers and more coming up the ranks all the time. A true great is someone who is blistering fast and can think.
Lewis has proved he doesn't do this and IMO vettel hasn't had the opportunity to show us this edge.

I wonder what Button could do with Vettel's RB. He's really an amazing driver, I hope he gets another WDC.

Plus he does what a lot of drivers fail, and thats actually come across as a nice guy.

Yes but that's a recent thing, he didn't have a good rep when he drove for Williams benetton or in his early bar days.
Of course he did - Ive watched him since GP2 and hes the same as hes ever been, though probably more relaxed nowadays. Dont understand why you would think differently

ps3ud0

Wish he would stop phoning Red Bull, he is starting to sound desperate ;)

Contracts, his attitude when he was at Benetton was also widely reported. That he became very big headed like he'd made it. That he didn't have to put the effort in anymore and he was widely reported to have turned into a playboy.

He had a pretty poor reputation prior to going to BAR and basically being rescued by Richards. Even at the time people questioned Richards signing him.

Button turned it around, no reason to suggest others cannot as well.

I like JB he is a very funny lad with a great sense of humour. My boss was at BAR/Honda when Richards, Geoff Willis etc were there and he has nothing but nice things to say about JB.

I imagine he would be a lot easier to get on with than say Lewis for example.
