Whats that got to do with it? Widescreen tvs existed way before digital.

The graphics are controlled by FOM

They won't, they're part of the FOM feed which is used worldwide, even in places where widescreen isn't common.

Why they don't just supply two feeds is beyond me.

The analogue signal was transmitted in 4:3 not 16:9 so even with a widescreen telly you couldn't watch it in 16:9.
