Singapore Grand Prix 2012, Marina Bay - Race 14/20

The only thing that's going to stop this becoming a formality for Alonso at this stage, is Vettel or a series of horrendous results but given his amazing consistency this season, that seems unlikely.

Alonso just doesn't have the pace in the dry. It's going to come down to the weather. If it stays dry Vettel will nick this at the end like 2010.

I don't think I could handle the Vettel love-in, if he wins the WDC this year.

Was dry as you like in Monza... Alonso had the pace to get past Vettel....

Don't think its going to be a weather factor, I think it will purely boil down to circuit characteristics... Singapore was going to be a tough race for Ferrari, I suspect Japan may prove a little better for them.

Ultra low downforce circuit is nothing like the rest of the tracks. Far less balance required in the set up on cornering. If Alonso had decent pace in the dry the car isn't showing it this year. 3rd is his highest grid position in the dry. Just take a look at his dry qualifying this year.

Quiet clearly they are struggling against Red Bull and Mclaren in the dry. I'm hoping for some more rain as they have a far better car then.

Qual is not race though? Ferrari is clearly a much better race car than on low fuel over a single lap. Alonso out qualified Seb at Spa as well.

I don't think you will need reminding which ones where wet qualifying. It's pretty stunning with those grid slots he leads the title. I don't think it's enough to hold off red bull in the dry if both cars finish every race.

Foe me it seems Alonso is only ever able to do damage or most damage in the first stint on higher fuel levels. His pace against the others definately starts to roll back as the fuel comes off.

25 points will not be enough unless Ferrari find some serious dry form as the fuel level comes down.

Surprisingly interesting race :p

What a shame for Hamilton, he had it in the bag really. Great result though for the top 4, all much needed.

Skimmed over a few comments on here and have to say it won't be a walk over by Alonso or Vettel - Mclaren still have a car that is sat on pole for several races now, so just need a bit more luck on the mechanical side.

Which shows my point, car is not so good on lower fuel, but by that time the race is pretty much decided anyway.

Ferrari have matched Red Bull in the dry in races.

I think the only say Mclaren will now have is who they take points off. They have a car to win every race until the end but I think that could help Alonso rather than Vettel, stopping Vettel taking the big points. I think I'd take varying mclaren wins until the end now :D

From Whitmarsh's comments earlier, I think the only way JB will take points off LH is if LH gets a penalty or technical issue that puts him behind JB.

I think you're right, the McLaren has the pace to win the remaining races, but I think a 50 point gap with only six races to go is too big.

His qualifying positions for the year:

Regardless of his qualifying, he's been on the podium 8 times in 14 races and only failed to score points at 1 race (which was when he got smashed into at Spa).

He might not have the qualifying pace but he has been more than making up for that with supreme consistency and solid point scoring in the races.

He's going to need to suffer a real drop in form or luck, wet or dry, to struggle to take the title now I think.

They need to set the race limit to 1hr 45mins, 2hrs was a bit too long today imo.

That really depends on the circuit and what's going on, though. I think we'd all have felt a bit robbed if Canada last year had been shorter than it was (actually racing time, I mean).

Still waiting on the outcome of the stewards' talks with Vettel and Button although I suspect it will be nothing more than being told to take more care in future. I could be totally wrong though and then who knows, maybe they'll have to do some community service. :p
