Singapore Grand Prix 2012, Marina Bay - Race 14/20

he should have won some races in that car hamilton would probably be leading the championship with that renault.

i think some of you have forgotten just how lighting fast that car has been during some of the races.

more often than not kimi is just in cruise mode battling with the saubers and mercs when he should be way up the road

either you massively overrate hamilton, or you're just not giving kimi the credit he deserves

or perhaps both..

They are definitely the 4th best car at worst

More than once they have been the best car and usuall ahead of one of the top 3

Their main problem is speed under Drs conditions which usually sees thm sstuckbbehind the Mercedes. I'm really really hoping DDrs gives them what they need to dispatch these slower cars in the Drs zone andhelp them have a shot at 3rd in the wcc

Lotus have had the best race pace on occasion, but not necessarily the position from quali to do enough about it. There was one race he caught up to Hamilton easily but that was by and large because Hamilton was just cruising around the front. WE generally don't have the situation that the person on pole can just push out a 15-20 second lead and sit on it the whole race as doing so will ruin your tires. Kimi caught up to Hamilton in that race but every single time he got within a second Hamilton could push that out to 1.5-2seconds every single time he wanted to all the way to the end.

That is both not pushing the tires every single lap, going only as fast as you have to to win the race and being sensible. It made Kimi look like he had the fastest car but in reality he burned his tires catching up and Hamilton saved his tires so was never in any real danger.

I do think Hamilton could have done better as Kimi has seriously underqualified the car with Grosjean beating him out consistently where as I would expect Hamilton to beat both in quali in the same car. Kimi is great in a race but not so hot in quali, Hamilton has always been great at both and those few positions are the difference between using up your tires catching up to the front, or being at the front and using them to overtake or perhaps undercut the guy infront.

apparently theres a board meeting in stutgart this morning and dieter is likely to remain at daimlers helm until 2016

i just pray they announce hamilton going to merc tommorow :D

Well don't get me wrong, I like Kimi a lot but I'm not convinced he's doing as amazing a job as people think. Sure he's beating the heck out of grosjean in the races, but that says more about grosjean's year than anything. In pure pace in qualifying, Grosjean has had the upper hand in 5 out of 12 quali sessions which is a pretty even record, and he's not a guy that's shown electric pace or anything in the past. So I think what Kimi is doing is a good solid, consistent, buttonesque (if people don't mind me saying) drive in that lotus rather than anything exceptional or extraordinary.

That is true, but he is certainly doing much better than Schumacher who also had time out from F1. Next season will be more interesting to see how he does, now he is fully up to speed with the cars, tyres etc.

Consistancy goes a long way though, especially in a season which has been as unpredictable as it has.

The Lotus seems to be pretty hit and miss with tracks and temps, so to be 3rd in the championship isn't to be sniffed at, but a lot of that comes down to the fact that other drivers haven't had the same consitancy/reliability he has (including Button).

and he's not a guy that's shown electric pace or anything in the past.

I think too many people are remembering 2009 Romain.

Since his first failed attempt at F1 he has won the 2010 Auto GP Championship, a couple of GT1 races, the 2011 GP2 Asia Series and the 2011 GP2 Series.

The fact Romain has been in so many incidents has masked the fact that he is actually a very quick driver. He has improved significantly since his 2009 F1 outing.

Claiming that Kimi isn't doing that well because he is only just beating his team mate and his team mate is rubbish is simply wrong. When Romain keeps it out of the wall, or other drivers, he is right up there. Given where Kimi and Romain have been for the last 2 years, you would expect Romain to be beating him.

Even if it means he forces Schumacher into retirement?
sure mercedes is such a great team and it will be interesting how hamilton compares to rosberg.

mclaren seem pretty stagnant where as come 2014 im sure merc will be in a good place for lewis.
rosbergs contract states he cant be a #2 driver though.

im not so sure schumacher would retire anyway his management have been in talks with other teams he probably wants out of merc because they seem incompetent and dont know how to upgrade a car

Spent 10 mins trying to make sense of that post and I couldn't. I'd like to crawl inside Arknor's brain, I'm sure it would be a fun place to be.

The horror!

Autosport claiming Mclaren have matched Mercedes offer. Can't open the article though, had all my free viewings this month
