Singapore Grand Prix 2012, Marina Bay - Race 14/20

The odds aren't that bad though, if you were talking about buttons chances I'd agree, as he needs to win a sack load of races and hope all his competition have some dnf's or finish out the points. Not going to happen.

But recent races suggest hamilton is capable of winning every race and alonso is very capable of finishing outside the top 3. If not for some failures ahead he'd have finished 5th or at best 4th last sunday.

As I said hamiltons biggest threat is vettel and alonso's best hope is vettel and hamilton taking points off each other. Unless the ferrari gets faster, of course.

Yep. And given the range of results we have had this year, realistically all Alonso needs to do is finish with decent points at every race, which he should be able to do.

3rd place in the championship in a 6-8th best car is underperforming

Easy tiger. The Lotus personnel would be very much offended by suggesting that they are the 8th best car on the grid.

McLaren, RBR and Ferrari are the only cars better than the Lotus. 4th best I'd say, just ahead of Mercedes.

I am confident Lewis will not win 6 races in a row, I am also confident that Alonso will win at Suzuka and put a major dent in all your hopes and dreams :)

The only real track of a worry for Ferrari now is Abu Dhabi, the rest will suit them pretty well.

Yep. But by the sounds of it they still want to give the impression it's not team orders, more like jenson orders.

:D

That's funny. But you are right. McLaren are beginning to soften the media/fans up, to the idea that Button may have to start "moving over".

I meant 6-8th as literal car, not team, to try and make it more obvious to arknor his statement was retarded that kimi was underperforming.

From what I saw in the last race (looking at Massa's pace), Ferrari were not a match for McLaren or RBR. And even Alonso, for all his skill, couldn't stand up to the raw pace of the McLaren and RBR.

The McLaren car in particular is devastatingly quick. Hamilton was about 0.9s faster in qualifying, in the last race.

How confident are you of this?

Don't worry about Arknor. He is just getting worried about the signature which he is going to be using after this year's title race is over.

Right now, I am thinking a "I LOVE KIMI" signature would be apt. ;)

Singapore? very different track to Suzuka. And Alonso was closing them in pretty well anyway.

Monza again very different but Ferrari had better pace than Red Bull and might have challenged McLaren.

I really can't see Hamilton winning however much i'd like it. The odds just aren't in his favour for being fastest in all races with Alonso doing worse than 2nd. And then when you factor in reliability, maldonado :D etc etc...

What kind of finishes would alonso/seb need for kimi to win? If hamilton could get a few 1sts with button and even webber pushing the others down a bit it could still happen :D

Dude, Alonso did not stand a chance against Vettel/RBR. Vettel was driving within himself and could've pushed harder. Its just that because Hamilton went out, he didnt need to push harder. Alonso was driving as fast as he possibly could and doubt he had much in reserve.

Ferrari probably had a race winning car at Monza, I will give you that, but this was a super low downforce track, unlike any other. I think even Hockenheim is no longer a super low downforce track, like it used to be.

Mclaren and (particularly) Hamilton have the car now to start every race from pole, if Vettel had just had another mediocre race, I'd say it was doable to catch Alonso, but he may find Vettel taking points off him. I hope Button plays the team card now to help.

I think it ultimately comes down to how quick the Red Bull car is from now on.

Alonso had brought the gap from 15 seconds down to 7ish when Lewis went out, so not sure why you think he did not stand a chance? The SC really hurt Alonso along with a strange time to pit and be stuck behind Pastor. And as I said Singapore was not really going to be a good track for Ferrari and Suzuka is much more there kind of track.

Is it you that he's got that deal with? If Hamilton does replace Schumacher at Mercedes and force him into retirement, please make him a Hamilton sig.

Actually, just make him have a sig of whoever replaces Schumacher regardless.

Or a Bernie sig. trololol :)

I suspect a combination of this will happen over the next few races....resulting in Alonso taking the championship.

Apparently McLaren's new found qualifying pace is, mostly, due to them unlocking the tyres with their adjustable heat ducts (which they've had all season). They've had a ex-Bridgestone engineer on their team for a few years now who's sole responsibility is to ensure they can dynamically control how much brake temperature is allowed to transfer into the tyre itself.

For qualifying they obviously "turn the knob to 11" to ensure the tyres are in the zone as quickly as possible.

I'd hazard a guess that McLaren's qually pace could remain for the rest of the season as I doubt this system is easy to copy and put onto a existing car. Otherwise teams would have done it already by now!

Surely Alonso's luck/car reliability must come to an end soon. If i remember correctly he has had only one DNF and that was the Spa,Grosjean incident?

It will be amazing if he makes it through the whole season without a car failure of some sort, and if that does happen, Ferrari should be proud.
