Singapore Grand Prix 2012, Marina Bay - Race 14/20

Those lap charts are great, thanks.

Vettel in blue, Alonso red, Hamilton orange:

Where did the pace Alonso showed between laps 17 and 22 go? Unless Hamilton and Vettel weren't pushing?

Also shows nicely the 45 second gain Alonso made after the SC, compared to the usual gain of 30 seconds for a 'normal' race pitstop, and the massive rate that he was loosing time before the SC too.

F1 fanatic has some awesome lap charts.

This shows the gap in seconds between 1st position:

Alonso in red, Hamilton in orange.

There's obviously a big spike for both drivers due to their pitstop but it's clear that from lap 17, Alonso was closing the gap by around a second a lap up to the point that Hamilton retired.

When Hamilton retired the gap was at 9.68 seconds.

Thank you :)

You really just don't understand and I can't be bothered trying to explain how the SC did nothing to help Alonso.

cant be bothered = cant admit you are wrong

Wonder if LH had come across (lapped) traffic at that point where gapes to him where dropping just before his retirement
(would explain why everyone was gaining on him - or maybe McLaren already knew his gearbox was dying). Either way its splitting hairs

I don't ignore qual but race pace is very different.

If the gap in quali is less than 0.25s/lap, I will agree that the relationship between race pace and quali pace can be ignored. BUT when a driver/car is over 1s faster than another driver/car, in qualifying, this cannot be ignored.

for your choice of charity I would sure - £20?

Lets make it smaller. I don't like betting (lessons learned); I just want to add some spice to the championship.

Call it a tenner.

1. This would be a donation to the bank of sunama ;), if Hamilton finishes ahead of Button in the title race.

2. Should Button finish ahead of Hamilton, I will transfer the money into an account of your choice.

3. If they tie on points, the bet is off.

Do we have an agreement?

Whitmarsh said that before Hamilton finally came to a stop, he started missing gear changes, so when the car finally stuck in neutral, it didnt come as a complete shock.

I think Hamilton started going slower as his gearbox was beginning to give way.

Was there ever any details on what they thought the cause was? I've heard a few people mention Lewis clipping the wall, but not heard what McLaren have said.

I'ts widely reported on further inspection the gearbox had the lettering MSC on the side and somehow it ended up at mclaren by mistake

Bit harsh
so you dont agree with widely respected and acclaimed photographer darren heath ?

I bet he knows more about the shenanigans that's gone on than any of us, that's for sure.

"It really is getting beyond a joke now, something that surely even the most blinkered Schumacher fan must admit."

Well not all of them yet. ;)

:p

D.Heath really lets rip on MSc in that blog.
I can't disagree with what he said. After MSc got beaten by Rosberg in the first year of his comeback, he should've given up.

I think when he quit in 2006, that was exactly the right time to go, particularly because Alonso had come of age and MSc was no longer able to beat younger drivers in equal or worse machinery.

I remember when he could destroy the credibility of whoever he drove with as a team-mate. JJ Lehto arrived at Bennetton with a massive reputation and he took one heck of a beating. It was a long time ago, but I'm sure MSc lapped Lehto in at least 1 race, which must've been humiliating.

Johnny Herbert and Jos Verstappen also partnered MSc at Bennetton all met similar fates.

In any case, sports men get old and younger sportsmen take their place. Its the cycle of life, I guess. Something which MSc needs to embrace. I'd much prefer to see a youngster (who isn't F1) be given a chance in F1.

then kick out petrov or some other time wasters :P

interstingly even though schumachers allegedly on a downward spiral his photo sold at auction for the most money by a large margin
http://www.pitpass.com/47433-Why-Michael-Schumacher-may-be-F1s-most-valuable-driver

bernies snowman was the second highest at £1,100 sold to damon hill
schumachers sold for £2,500 to some american phone bidder

it doesnt say what the rest sold for but the average price was £450

its pretty obviously darren heath is butthurt though i remember this one

Crashing into people doesn't stop him being the most successful driver ever?

I don't get what your point is? That the best drivers to sign are those whose pictures sell for most? Should we expect Bernie to be looking for a race seat next year? Just..... um... huh?

did i say that? you love to twist peoples words....... and have bizarre interpretations.

ill stop bothering to reply to you again... i should have learnt my lesson like most people on the forum have
