Singapore Grand Prix 2013, Marina Bay - Race 13/19

Would be shame to go from Raikkonen to Valsecchi from Lotus' point of view, quite the difference in results I'd imagine.

Think Lotus still have d'Ambrosio on their books too.

...and there's always Nick Heidfeld... he's steady at least :p :D

Don't think it would, lotus aren't going to move championship positions and they have to pay him per point

If this really is a back injury thing then next year might not be so good for ferrari

If that's the case they may as well just throw someone with stacks of cash in the car, help them out financially.

Quick Google suggests his back injury is painful, but not a serious issue.

Considering he raced well in Singapore, but is no longer on speaking terms with the team, it all sniffs of a political dance.

A bit silly-season, but how long before someone suggests that if Lotus are truly interested in Hulkenberg for next season, that that move is brought forward. On paper it suits all parties - Lotus get their driver, Hulkenberg gets his seat, both settle before the 2014 season testing, and Sauber have to catch up on several fewer Hulkenberg payments - but it's never going to happen.

On a similar note I'm surprised there hasn't been more talk of Webber potentially bowing out early. He's already coming across as demotivated and just waiting for the season to end, the grid penalty for Korea is hardly going to help him and quite frankly it makes no odds to RB who is in the second car, they're going to win both titles regardless.

Getting Ricciardo in the car early will help take some of the pressure off him next season and if done for Korea would sidestep Webbers penalty allowing the second car to start further up the grid and it's not like there will be any contractual difficulties in making it happen.

interesting point. Da Costa would also get some F1 mileage in TR before next season

just caught up with this after having jet lag from getting back from honeymoon :p think i did well to avoid all news from sunday till now :)

what a boring race.

cant see vettel losing it now, such dominance.

seems we only tune in now to see who finished 2nd and 3rd. shame. (not red bulls fault tho).

what are the chances of webbers car once again failing out of the two.

not reading back through this thread but will assume smr has done his usual hamilton hating ;)

The real 'race' now is for 2nd place between Alonso, Hamilton and Kimi (unless the rumours are true about Kimi, in which case just Alonso and Hamilton).

36 points is quite a margin considering how consistent Alonso usually is and the fact he's trying to chase down Vettel.

Even if he ends up 3rd, Hamilton will still finish in his highest position since winning in 2008 which isn't bad going after joining a new team (previous results were 4th / 5th / 4th / 5th).

If he could snatch 2nd away from Alonso (however unlikely) it would be immense.

The only stopper would be if Webber is contractually blocked from driving for other teams until the end of the season.

If he couldn't do anything until the end of the year if he did step back, he'd be better off just carrying on. Unless he can jump into the Porsche and help them with development theres little point.
