so what they are actually saying is someone messed up at the factory

Pretty much. Something left on some electronics by the sound of it. Likely something conductive. Copper grease maybe?
 
He was pulling away because the others were trying to conserve their tyres to make it to the end (driving like a grandma, as Massa put it). Hamilton hadn't used the soft tyres and had to make an extra stop, so was able to abuse his tyres.

Which was stupid for Alonso as he was on new tyres, why was he trying to conserve them?
