Singapore Grand Prix 2015, Marina Bay - Race 13/19

They need to make some changes to the whole T1 chicane too to stop people from just aborting any effort to make it round on the first lap. There's no penalty for cutting across.

Anyway, fully expecting this to be a long, boring race. Even more so than Monza was.

1. Hamilton
2. Rosberg
3. Vettel
4. Kimi
5. Bottas

McLaren to get 300 positions worth of penalties too and start the race from Melbourne.

It's difficult. It's a street circuit, so they can't just create a gravel trap there. They also can't use sausage kerbs as they are dangerous and make cars airborne, which is a nightmare for a track like this.

I never find Singapore boring tbh, it's fast close, hot, uncomfortable, zero margin for mistakes. Great track, one of my favourite GP weekends, plus the cars looked epic under the lights and the whole place looks beautiful.

I agree with you that the cars look epic, that's the only attraction for me really. I wouldn't say there's zero margin for mistakes. There's plenty of margin for mistakes, there are only a few places where there isn't.

My main irk is that there's a massive lack of on track action. Hopefully I'll be proved wrong this weekend.

Hahaha that tickled me :D

Looking forward to the race this weekend, hope it goes ahead as I love being able to see their faces through the visors looking all focused

Yep clear visors ftw. I wonder if they have new recommendations for when the tyre pressures are to be checked? They only actually checked Merc and Ferrari last time I think.
Last race was a joke with all the punishments being handed out. I knew that 4 power units in a year would cause a problem, new tech and all.

I highly doubt only Mercedes and Ferrari were checked. Most likely is that all or most cars were checked, but one guy (and his gear) was used to check the Mercs and Ferraris and that's why Ferrari were mentioned in the same document as the Mercedes.

I thought it was just Merc. and Ferrari as they were the only cars that suffered failures at Spa?

I expect to see Toto on the grid with a footpump come Sunday, <Arnie>Get to da compressaaaa</Arnie>

Lol. Pretty sure I heard them say they had only checked the Mercs and Ferraris on the grid. I wonder what limitations they will apply for the next race (pirelli).

The limitation is to respect basic high school physics and use temp vs pressure and simply take the basic measurement as fact. If the tires are the right pressure when checked in the garage being prepared for the race under the supervision of the Pirelli man in the garage and the tire pressure sensors say the tire is over that minimum pressure for the entire race..... that's fine.

They had a stupid tester slowly test one car after another and test two tires(along with temp) that had lower pressure as a direct result of the drop in temperature. There was at no stage any issue, the tinniest bit of common sense would have seen the situation never happen. In fact because the FIA made such a huge deal over literally nothing, Rosberg got a DNF he may otherwise not have gotten. They turned up the engine thinking he needed a gap on the Williams as much as he wanted to pass Vettel and the engine blew, it may have gone anyway but chances are it would have made it to the end.

Yep the temps were crucial. Apparently the Merc temps on the grid were 10deg cooler than the others as they had taken off their blankets sooner. But as you say they were fine when checked in garage with Pirelli man present.
I wonder if they asked Lewis to speed up to avoid a time penalty or if they were somehow trying to increase the pressures in a vain attempt to come back into line.

Toto said the pressures never went under the minimum for the whole of the race, so it seems they were trying to make sure that even if Hamilton got a post race 25 second penalty, he would have (just) been clear of Vettel and still come in first.

It was all very silly. It makes it sound like the FIA had one bloke in a flat cap going round with a tyre pressure gauge, and they decided (an hour into the race) that there was a tyre pressure issue (and thus a safety issue) that was big enough to override Pirelli and the race telemetry, but not enough to mention before the race started. In the end the bloke with the flat cap didn't know what he was doing as he was measuring tyres at the wrong time and wrong temperature.

What's the deal behind Merhi? Has he been sacked?

He's hardly been sacked if he's going to race 2 of the remaining races. :D

It'll be part of the Ferrari deal no doubt, where they can place a driver a seat at any point, and given their close links to Haas. Whether it's to give him experience of just a try-out who knows.

I think Mehri has improved considerably from a difficult start.

Think he would have done all 7 if GP2 season didn't overlap!

That's certainly how I interpreted the news stories.

The only thing about Rossi is he's one of those drivers who takes several attempts to do well in GP2 having done it in 2013, 2014 and this year, has only 3 wins total, 1 pole position and no fastest laps. The best GP2 graduates in F1 at the moment dominated it in one or two seasons. Maldonado by contrast took 4 seasons to win it, but won a far higher percentage of races than Rossi.

Stoffel Vandoorne last year finished 2nd in his first season, and has Rossi thrashed so far this season with nearly 100 points ahead.

Just seems a shame that yet again the drivers who graduate have strong financial backing, without being the quickest drivers. Sort of makes a mockery of the "pinnacle of motorsport" if we don't even have the best drivers across the grid.

Although I do accept "what else is new?" :D
