Singapore Grand Prix 2015, Marina Bay - Race 13/19

Yeah I'd say that Rossi has replaced Mehri, but they have had to use Mehri to cover the races Rossi isn't available. I'd expect its simply down to money, with Ferrari/Haas paying for him to get some experience.

Yea I'd guess so... Wonder if it's too get some mileage under his belt or if its more of an audition of sorts.

I'm sure Haas would love an American driver and he's probably the easiest fit at the moment.

Wonder if we could end up with An American in Rossi and maybe a Mexican in Gutierrez? Would be team north America :p

By the way fat john was talking today, he will be going to Haas next year with Gutierrez.

Haas have said they don't want any rookies and are after 2 experienced drivers, one of which should have been in F1 a while. Grosjeans and Magnussen maybe?

Why would Grosjean leave when Lotus is about to become Renault?

Because it's about to become Renault-powered. :p

It is a bit of an odd move though - leave the French works team to join a customer new-comer, and presumably he had every chance to remain at Lotus... though it still sounds uncertain as to whether Renault will take them over, so perhaps that uncertainty is his reasoning.

On 5Live, apparently from what they are saying that Renault are about to pull out of the sport altogether and not buy Lotus, which would make sense given fatjohn knowing and going to Haas.

I think it makes perfect sense. As they don't have anyone to sale engines to.
I said as much last race. If rbr go Ferrari no doubt toro would be Ferrari as well.
Leaves Renault with one team, they're own. And even that is currently merc engine.
And due to tokens, unlikely they'll catch up anyway.

Renault pulling out would be a disaster. Lotus will go bust and vanish, and both RBR and STR will have to go cap in hand to Ferrari. If they only get the offer of year old engines from Ferrari then I wouldn't be surprised if they just jump ship too.

So we could see 3 teams disapear from the grid, and be left with basically 2 engine manufacturers, both owning their own teams and therefore having an alarming amount of control over deciding who will be competitive.

We could end up in a position where Mercedes and Ferrari are picking and choosing the competitiveness of the rest of the grid, and that's really quite scary...

Think they would only scarp if rbr go to Ferrari, but it's looking reasonably likely they are going to Ferrari, so it's hardly cap in hand and rbr wouldn't agree to year old engines.
Wouldn't that be against the rules anyway.

The stories are that Renault want a similar "historic payment" that some of the other big teams get, and they will use that money to buy Lotus. Without that, a public company with government backing such as Renault will not pay to buy something as risky as a F1 team. If the F1 rights holder won't pony up as they have for the likes of Ferrari, then Renault may be out. They don't see it as a good investment when they get ignored when the team wins, and then lambasted when the team loses.

By the looks of whats come out of todays meetings, the teams have agreed to allow 1 year old engines to be used at 2/3rd the cost of current engines.

But Red Bull have said they will only stay in the sport if they have a competitive engine. A 1 year old version of the second best engine is not a competitive engine, so we could well see toys exiting prams and them leaving.

I'm becoming more and more convinced that the way forward is for engine providers to not also be allowed to own teams. It create such a conflict of interest that its killing the sport.
