Sins of a Solar Empire : Rebellion

On god, I can't play this game, I keep getting killed.
I need a massive fleet to attack, but then they or someone else attacks me on the other side of the empire. If I split into two fleets, one attacking and one guarding. I take far to many losses.

Any guides. Got close, but so far haven't won a single game yet.

what setting you playing at?

here is what I have done to make it fun:

- Ive made a map of 8 players 40 planets with 1 pirate planet with lots of lane access and lots of neutrals guarding the planets.
- next I keep upping the difficulty to where I find it very challenging

So - here is what I do

first just figure out what race you think you will enjoy the most; if I remember right Ive played the loyalist TEC - mainly for the titan and the gun platforms (upgraded really pack a punch).

Next depends if you go for a quick start or a regular start; either way I get 2 scout ships and scout all around. I make a coloney capital ship and proceed to take out the nearest easy planet (usually an asteroid); and then I work on purchasing a kol capitial ship to help with aquiring the next hardest/nearest planet.

Now it all depends on the difficulty but the higher difficulty it is the harder you will have to defend; youll be making gun platforms and other things to attempt to stop mutiple enemies from attacking you. And most attack you if they see you as weak.

My usual objective is to strive for 3-5 systems and then build them up; usually I get 4 but on harder difficuties Im usually stuck with 3 and I proceed to build them up with defenses etc ... having my eye on a particular tech so building up either military or econ structures.

Now all people play differently but I usually just focus on building capital ships at least for the first 1/2 of the game.

Using repair platforms and gun platforms is a good way to defend your planet while you build up. I tend not to use starbases till late game ... unless I play vasari.

Mid game I seem to be sending my main fleet from one planet to the next mearly defending the constant attacks; while trying to rebuild my planets and defenses. It gets hard when its 2-3 enemies attacking me; 2 enemies is doable - when its 3 then its probably game over for me.

As far as the titan goes - usually get him up late mid game. Pretty expensive; and you want some ships to guard him since he moves quite slow.

Late midgame I figure out what planet of planets I want and proceed to do my best to take em one at a time ... I usually get to a point in the game where no one can stop me and then I quit ... or I get to a point where I will be eventually wipped out (this is usually in the begginning so I my game usually ends early).

hope this helps

This looks right up my alley, do I need to own or need to have played the earlier games?

I'd prefer to just jump in when this comes out in June, so many games I want to play/finish.

Ok, I will look forward to this, out in June apparently.

ya its out now - not sure what the price is on steam atm; shouldnt be too bad thou ... I was reading all the reviews of 4x games and trying to decide on one and went with this.

I enjoyed it quite a bit - put in 190 hours since christmas but got bored recently ... figure 190 hours is a decent time for a 20pound game.

as I stated in my mini guide - challenge yourself with the difficulty levels ... quite intense

cool thing is all the races bring quite unique things to the table as far as abilities etc ...

and your capital ships and titans grow in experience so there is a slight rpg element also. (you pick skills etc)

just saw this on a steam sale 75% off - worth it for those on the fence. Not perfect but Ive put in 150+ hours so that's not bad for the price. Also got a small DLC you might want to buy.

I got it in summer sale but really struggled to get into it, it seems to have a steep learning curve with no help. What am I meant to research? just no tips. Tutorial is shocking also.

It is a complex game but once you get the basics it really does become hard to put down. Start with a play through of the 8-10 tutorials included in the game and don't worry if they don't make any sense to start with.

A quick google and you can find a wealth of beginner tips and guides on the official forums.

You could always start a game with no pirates and set the AI to easy-fortifier which will give you plenty of time to build up your base, start research and amass your army.

If you are struggling and cannot work something out just ask on here or give me a shout.

Any feedback on the new DLC Stellar Phenomena?

Even at 50% off making it £1.99 it seems over priced for what it adds. And probably increases frustration factor.

It definitely spices the game up a bit. However the events can be a bit game breaking - I've had AIs wiped out 15 minutes into a game by entire fleets (5+ cap ships and lots of cruisers/frigates) hitting their capital - if this happened to a player there would be no defending.

But that said the events are pretty fun overall, for the most part they're just economic upturns or downturns for everyone or individual planets - but every once in a while a random fleet turns up or a random titan and **** gets real. I'd get it for £1.99.

Has anyone got a save game they can upload for Archaeologist achievement?

Still not received this achievement, and completing a 150-160 planet map missing 4 artifacts has frustrated me.

Well, I started to revisit this game as it runs so well at 4k on older hardware and OMFG... I forgot how amazing it is! :D

I basically play it modded and use:

Star Wars Ascendancy https://www.moddb.com/mods/star-wars-ascendancy

Star Trek Armada https://www.moddb.com/mods/star-trek-armada-3

I mean seriously... what more does any sci-fi nut need than being able to live out their Star Wars and Star Trek fleet warfare fantasies? The amount of work that has gone into those is just outrageous and the visuals and sounds and music are all spot on for their respective universes. Awesome. :)
