Sir Alex Ferguson Retires

I can't see Utd simply accepting CL qualification for a prolonged period.

Of course not, the end game has to be for him to continue the tradition of us challenging for the title season after season but just next season as a starting point would simply finishing top 4 be seen as a success?

Again I'm not against the appointment per-say but at this point it's a little hard to know what the expectations for someone like Moyes should be next season...

Personally I dont see there being any chance for a Ronaldo return now (it was slim to none before Fergie's announcement) as for Rooney given the way he acted last time it wouldn't surprise me if he did indeed chose now to push for a transfer

Reading the quotes from Fergie and Bobby C has convinced me to be a believer. Roll on August and the new season :)

Great news that Moyes has gone to Man.U.

Not only does it mean that he won't be taking over at Chelsea but it should make them a bit weaker as to be fair there's no way he'll be of Fergie's standard for a while at least.
It's going to be fun watching plenty of Man.U. fans frothing at the mouth too if they don't get success for a few seasons as some of them have only ever supported a team that wins things, that's not a dig, just the way it is :)

That whole post was a dig :o

What did he say that was a dig? A week ago had anybody said that Moyes was as good or better than Fergie you'd have had a fit Tom so you can't really argue with somebody saying Utd are going to be weaker as a result of the change.

Who said I was arguing? Everyone knows Moyes is a step down from Fergie we don't need someone stating the obvious and when it's someone like Jonny doing it he's doing it with the sole intention of winding up thus he was taking a dig

So you agreed with everything he said but because it was him saying it, it's a problem? He can't simply be expressing a fairly logical opinion that he's happy that Utd are likely to be weaker now?

Not when he says he's not having a dig no.

If I say Abramovich was an idiot for sacking Mourinho I'm telling the truth am I not? I'm also knowingly having a dig whilst doing so. It's exactly what Jonny did.

How on earth did I miss that thread way back when? Fair play to Baz and Pigeon playing along :D

A hollow gesture if it all goes wrong but I do have a great deal of pride for the club giving a British manager like Moyes a chance, again he may not have been my first choice but then like most supporters you tend to get suckered into who's the latest flavour of the month and who might bring guaranteed instant success rather than looking at the bigger picture

These next two games are going to be difficult though, coming to terms with Fergies retirement is one thing actually saying goodbye to him though is something else :(

I tried for tickets a few weeks back but once it became 'official' that'll be the game where we lift the trophy there was no chance, even less now I suspect.

I'm probably going to be a crying wreck from my sofa let alone being there in person :( :p

As long as we're challenging and there are positive signs for the future I'm willing to give Moyes a few trophy-less years. Let's face it a Capital One/FA Cup is scant consolation for a club like ours anyway so yeah I can live with a few 3rd place finishes (again as long as there's signs of progression and he's not going backwards with each passing season)
