Skiing/Boarding 13-14

Back from Levi, clouds were the only problem (nice to see the sun again!) but managed to do 25km of cross country skiing, and all the blue slopes and only fell over 3 times, not bad for a first effort, got the bug now I think!

I've got that lid, with pretty much the same go-pro mount point
+1 kudos to you :p
yeh thought I would hate it but its actually a super comfy helmet. One thing iv noticed this year more than ever is that literally everyone has a helmet now.. Good to see.

Just got back from a week in Les Deux Alpes, weather was quite poor apart from two glorious days. Lots of snow though!

Same week it seems! Yes it snowed a lot and hard! half my group were crying like babies but managed to drag most of them out :p
Loved the snow park there.

The wife was looking at snowboarding hols last night and it got me in the mood again.
Haven't been for quite a few years due to a nasty injury which still gives me problems (neck).

So what we are fancying due to my injury and her only having done it a couple of times is just going somewhere with really good Blue runs. I'm talking really long ones.

Last trip we were in Slovenia and the place was lovely but the runs were basically just go straight up, come straight down - boring.

A few years before that we went to Austria and there were some great blue runs there. 15-20 minutes from top to bottom and they wind around the mountain. Only 30-40 degree slopes which is ideal for my wife and probably for me now.

Not that into the 'extreme' side of it and prefer just the flow of a medium speed run surrounded by beautiful scenery and treelines. Seems they are hard to come by.

Any recommendations?
Not fussed on dates and would be interested in timing it with others too if anyone else is planning a trip to make it a bit more social as none of our mates are into it.

We are now looking at going to Val Claret / Tignes for a week sometime in the next month.

didn't take long to decide - just picked one and hoing for it as we like to explore any new place.

Posting on Gone Boarding too for any possible meets.

Really liked Val Claret. We stayed in Val d'Isere but spent most of our time around Val Claret. Lovely little cheap fast food place too (hidden away with bright orange signs) when you get tired of spending 20 euros on lunch every day!

Cheers I'll look out for that. Booked up for 15th-22nd March and we are meeting some others out there too so should be fun.

Got the full lift pass so can go along to Val d'Isere too.

Now, we both just have to finish major projects at work, and a large uni assignment before we go....damn. But at least once we do these we can just go and have fun!!

Just booked a cheeky trip to Les Arcs on the Snow Train, leave Friday evening 15th March. Then get 8 full days skiing in Les Arc before getting the snow train back very late Saturday 22nd Evening. Never been Les Arcs before, gone for the full Paradiski pass so have lots of milage to cover :)

Cant wait - 3 weeks tomorrow!

Just back from skiing/boarding in Chamonix, another three days and I'm off to Morzine for 4 more days. Taking both skis and my board, still can't decide which I prefer.

Oh, I did end up buying a Yes The Asym board today though! Definitely eager to give it a bash.

I am going end of March to Val T, I am already so inpatient!
Can't wait and snow is looking a lot better across most places now.

Is this year just a really late season? Or were the low snow reports at christmas just exagerated after the last few years??

The jet stream has moved the weather about, hence there was lower snowfall over Christmas during the period we had a lot of unsettled weather. It's resulted in snowfall being better further North of the equator, hence why Scotland is having a record season.

We are in Whistler ATM. We have had two large dumps of powder including a record breaker. Bliss

We have spent most of the time tailing our instructor down into the bowls and learning how to ski steeps. So much fun, I want to stay out here forever. Golf, MTBing and fishing in the summer!

Cheers, makes sense :)
Funnily enough I work in Sweden and we have had a crazy mild Winter. although at the top end it has been warmer than normal but still huge amounts of snow.
Hemsedal people can touch the top of lamp posts at waist height while walking along.

Just had a weekend in Arosa and jesus, the visibility was possibly the worst I have ever experienced... it was literally a case of not seeing more than 5-10m in front, very dangerous!

Off to ischgl in Austria at the end of Marc, so looking forward to that. Also for next year I think I'll buy some Freeride / All mountain skis like the Salomon Q90's or Atomic Rituals... Ive been on race skis for thge last few years now and there not so versatile when you want to play around in some powder. Lets see what the sales bring this year. :)
