Skiing/Boarding 13-14

Just hit the button on some Line Sick Day 2014 125s and some Line Pandora 2014s for the Mrs.

Hnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng the sick days look epic fun!

Off to Borovets first week in January, had a year off last year so chomping at the bit to get out there.

Got 2 booked so far

Arabba on December 5th for a 5 day start of season weekend - A friend from University has a flat out there so accommodation is free. And my other friend works for Easyjet so flights to Venice are £40!

La Plagne in Feb is booked too. We went last season and it was great

Hopefully a third trip around New Year but not decided where yet

Daughter will be getting her first skiing lesson at the Trafford Centre this October holiday!

Probably the Pyrenees or Auvergne in Feb but may try and organise an Alps trip, although I think i'd rather save the Alps until Spring/Summer for hiking - the 8 hour drive is a killer.

*sits refreshing tracking page*

Sent back my Sweet pants today as well for repair. Pockets ripped right through the seams and since they were bloody expensive I asked to send them to Sweet. Customer services been very good so far, too. Will see though...

Hopefully will be going this year. Missed the last two seasons in order to help save up for engagement ring and associated wedding.

There is talk of a friend having his stag do as a 5 day ski trip to Sauze D'Oulx. Good location, having been before. Lots of skiing to be had (part of the Milky Way) and good lifts due to Sestriere having held the winter olympics in 2006.

Hoping to get three weeks in again this year. Nothing booked yet though.

Mainly boarding, but may do a bit of time on skis as well.

You could go water skiing with them! ;)

Are they supposed to perform well on an average slope or are they just for deep powder?

Supposed to be great in the powder, but due to a pretty low rocker, they still have a really good solid surface area for on piste too. Saying that I ski 174s and these are 186s so that should be a fun tail and tip catching morning. :D

Yeah, it's f'in freezing here and we're near the coast!

How far are you from the Alps, around a 2 hour drive?

We're about 2hrs from the Alps, yea. We have close Swiss ski regions, but we never go to them as having a place makes it hard to justify!

We were up a Grindelwald at the weekend, it was like winter up there. Fantastic!

Where would you guys suggest to go in europe this winter?

I think my friends are planning a trip to Tignes which i may tag along with.

myself and mrs rjk did snowboarding lessons this summer, she still needs to get up her confidence but her disinterest in practising is holding her back.

I on the other hand have waded in on equipment and am going to snowdome/chill factor as often as i can.

my own boots has really made a huge difference and i am now at the point where i am throwing myself off stuff :D

i would say i am fairly confident now, but it would be cool to find a resort that caters well to beginners.

keep hovering over a 2013 Lib Tech Skate Banana but holding off temptation.

advice would be welcome :)

Les Sybelles area would be perfect for you. We've gone every year to La Toussuire for the last 3 (the other villages seem just as nice), won't be going this year only because we're going to Italy and Austria; it's quite quiet, wouldn't recommend it if you want some late night partying.

Hundreds of kilometres of piste to keep you interested (you'd be hard pressed to ski it all in two weeks let alone one). Tons of beginner slopes, but harder stuff is easily accessible (within 1 short ski lift ride you can be on quite challenging reds to ski to even more challenging red/blacks if that is your sort of thing). There is also a park for jumping/tricks if that kind of thing floats your boat. The lifts are all really well laid out, and the lift passes are quite reasonable.

I can't recommend the area enough.

excellent, nice start. will look into that. thanks platypus

has anyone gone to Tignes? would prefer to go with a group of people rather than swanning off on my own for the first time really.

If anyone has a group of people that are still deciding where to go then I recommend Snowed Inn Chalets in Serre Chevalier (near the French/Italian border). The prices are for accommodation & fully catered food (breakfast, afternoon tea apres & dinner). It its run by a group of english friends, very friendly and good service. We had a trip with them organised by our friend's snowboard shop this past February. The slopes are good for all types of abilities and it is about 30 mins car/bus to other resorts such Montgenèvre.
