Sking/Snowboarding 09/10

Loving the Olympics, slopes are dead. Not lined up for a lift since last Sunday.

Fresh lines for 4 hours before work today - day 50 of the season

PS. Personal thoughts on rocker - superior for everything except euro-carving groomers. I ride rocker, but miss the camber on icy days.

In Whistler, none, we're having a record year.

Down in Van they are struggling though. Helicopters running 24/7 @ Cypress pulling snow from the peak down to the half pipe and border cross. Costing $10k/hour apparently.

They are resorting to building the border cross corners from hay and molding snow around it.

West coast BC is having one of its wettest winters ever, unfortunately its just too warm down there at sea level in the city.

(tu)!

Booked today, Val Thorens at the end of the feb, flights, transfers and accomodation for £270!

But now I've also fallen in love with a Smith Variant Brim Helmet after trying about 20 on. Question is, what colour do I get? I already have all white Adidas Yodai goggles and it only seems to be available in stock in either black pinstripe, white pinstripe colourways or white with red grandstanding:

If you're more advanced you may have to travel to LaPlagne area. There are some nasty blacks/off piste yup by the glacier.

Yeh, I heard that from some of the seasonaires and we had grand ideas of heading over there a couple of times but a few late nights / early mornings put an end to that idea. :p

Cat boarding on a bluebird, not a bad day :D

Looking to go to Val Thorens 20th or 21st March for a week. Where on earth did you get those prices from? I'm looking for transfers, accommodation and board hire and not really sure where to start.
Just back from Tignes last week there, 3rd time there (went twice last season). Snow absolutely dumped down on all but 2 days. Visibility quite bad on a couple of afternoons but overall, conditions were excellent and snow was the best I had seen there. Getting up first thing in the morning on flattened, undisturbed powder with the sun glaring down was just awesome.

Chamonix was like that this week too. Just gone for 5 days, saturday was cloudy with poor visibility, the next two days beautifully sunny with perfect snow on and off piste and then the next cloudy and snowy again with yesterday being mostly whiteout conditions and post following to get down the runs.

That was booked through Crystal Ski online and actually turned out to be cheaper (after paying supplements) to get a 4 person room for 3 people, instead of just the 3 person room. Also there's cashback available through quidco to make it even cheaper.

What were the slopes like for everyone else this year? Chamonix was deserted the entire time. We only had to queue more than 30 seconds twice, both for the main godolas up to the ski areas, the rest of the time straight on to whatever lift we wanted. As for the pistes other than the main 2-3 slopes the rest were almost deserted, a lot of the time we pretty much had entire pistes/areas to ourselves. :D

Yeh, it was noticeably quieter this year than the past few times I've been to the alps, both on the slopes and apres. Exchange rate was even worse this time last year, but maybe people have realised they need to tighten the purse strings a bit now.

Just arrived in Avoriaz, French Alps for a weeks sking! -11 at the moment, plenty of snow, snowing now. Not heavy snow, but if it carries on all night there should be 6 inches of fresh stuff in the morning!

Just having a beer in a local bar, anybody else out on the slopes this week?

Winter is back here in Whistler after a 6 week warm spell. Got a new head cam, found some weird music and mashed together some footage from yesterday - 2ft of fresh in the past 72hours
