Sking/Snowboarding 09/10

Me and a mate are thinking of heading over to Yad Moss, near Alston tomorrow. Just wondering if anyone knows whether it's ok to just turn up on the day and get a ticket, or do you have to be a member of the club first?

Cheers in advance:)

Just got back from La Plagne, had an absolutely perfect week, snow conditions and weather was fantastic, one day of fairly heavy snowfall and sunshine the other 5! Just need to let my muscles recover now!

Les Arcs 2000 for my first ever skiing trip on Friday for 7 days :D Staying in Club Aiguille Rouge and travelling on the Eurostar night train.

I went to Chill Factore for a days skiing tuition and loved it. Definitely wanna take it up as a hobby.

Can anyone recommend any schools for private instruction for two/three hours in the Les Arcs area? We wanted 1800 but 2000 was the cheapest in the end.

Was in Les Arcs for a week 9-16th. Awesome snow conditions and weather.
I did post a set of photos in the video/photography section but I think this shot says it all:

With the Paradiski we had the entire Les Arcs region and La Plagne area.

Just looked at the wether forecast for Cham for the next week, snow, snow and more snow! :D

However it's supposed to hit -26 (not windchill, -45 with) at the top a couple of days before we get there... Now that is cold!

I know it'll be too late but yes you can just turn up :) They do say that if you're there after 11:30am they won't guarantee you a ticket though as they have a very big lift queue when it gets busy (20mins+ when I went in December)

If there is a good dump again I'm going to be off once more with a load of the snowsports lot from our uni which should be fun :D

Cheers, we decided to chance it anyway, and you were correct!:) Lift queue wasn't very long, but damn, it's an evil lift! Start area is on a slope, so you start to slide back when you put your back foot on the board. Then, the tension builds until you're launched forwards at a fair rate. At this point, you've overtaken the lift a bit, so repeat the first launch. I made it up the first time, but the 2nd I was caught out at the second pull (oo-er!) and lost it. The next attempt resulted in the button being pulled out from between my legs (double oo-er!) at the same point. Hopefully a bit of practice will help, it was a lot harsher than any other drag lift I've experienced...

We gave up on the lift at this point, and went off to build a small jump away from the main slope.

Still, a great day out, and might pop over there again this weekend (weather permitting) - depends on the surf forecast.

Crowbars all the way! Absolutely awesome goggles.

Don't want to spend an extra £30! But i have read they are good. But for that price might as well get A frames as i've heard they're the ones to get.
I went for the o frames in the end. They should be coming tomorrow hopefully!

EDIT:
In the end i went for the Helly Hansen Chief jacket for £50 because aslong as it's waterproof to some extent it should be fine, and because it has good insulation and is only £50.
Found the Trespass Buckeye DLX for £40 so i thought what the hell and bought that as well.. So instead of initially buying just a jacket, and borrowing the goggles and salopettes, i've now got it all :D
Just the ski's, poles and boots to go :p

Right, about to start trying to book our snowboarding holiday, 20th feb for a week. I've already been to Val Thorens, Tignes and Les Arcs, is there anywhere else I should try out in france particularly? Otherwise I think we might end up in Les Arcs looking at the deals available.

Or even other alternatives?

We're just looking for nice cheap week away boarding, nothing fancy

Just got back from Les Arcs. It puked it down Friday night so first lifts Saturday were amazing. Loving my new Hatchet, it can handle anything you throw at it and barely has a mark on it after a week of pretty brutal riding.

Wasn't a massive fan of the mountain compared to other resorts I've been to - hell of a lot of flat areas and even in the skiers in my group were sick of poling about.

Burned_Alive - You thought about Cham? I love it there.

Did look at it, but have heard its quite expensive? (Cost of living type cost, rather than accom, etc) But if its not any worse than other resorts ill take a look

We're going there next week and have been before. Last time I found it to actually be cheaper to buy food than most resorts as it's a full sized town with motorway access. The company we got our accomodation with were offering meals at their restaurant for €12 for 2 courses and €17 for 3 courses. No idea how good it is but that seems pretty much UK price.

I got back last week from a week away and my mate bought one before we went. He loves it!

Funny thing is he was a Burton fanboy. I was ripping into him all week about it. I should not have really as I am a K2 fanboy. :D

Likewise! My old board was a Custom - Hatchet was half the price and rides so much better. It's meant to be a freestyle board primarily but I rode it on ice and powder and it never felt anything other than 100% solid. So much board for your £££.

Though he did hire a Custom V-Rocker for a couple of days and has kind of fallen in love with it.

My next board is definitely going to a rocker of some sort. Basically whatever K2 are doing though I am mulling over getting a Battaleon as heard nothing but good reviews about their 'triple base technology'.

If you're more advanced you may have to travel to LaPlagne area. There are some nasty blacks/off piste yup by the glacier.
