Skoda

Anyone have a Fabia 1.2 Tsi? How smooth are they? and whats realy world mpg like? im looking at the Monte Carlo edition on a 12 - 14 plate. Its either that or a Fiesta Zetec S 1.0 Ecoboost at the moment which are probably 2k more expensive.

I will test drive both beforehand but prefer the look of the skoda so any owners comments or advice would be welcome.

I have the 1.4 in my Octavia.

I can get 50mpg+ in stop start so I would imagine in a Fabia it would be the perfect combination of nippiness and economy.

I've watched as people stop 20 secs down the road as their car refreezes, whilst their partner is angry for leaving the drive like an icerink :)
Water on the front screen clears down the bonnet drain.
Water used on the back and sides is so small it barely makes it onto the drive.

F&R wipers clear any remaining water to stop it re-freezing :)

Not rocket science :p

What's up with the 1.4tsi octavia gearbox? Struggles to go 10mph in 2nd but will go 30mph in 6th???

What I mean is if I really want to I can cruise at 30mph in 6th and it doesn't complain, yet it's almost kangarooing at 10mph in 2nd. It also means I'm cruising at 3000rpm on the motorway which seems silly with 6 gears! The 5th and 6th gears are virtually redundant at road legal speeds.

2.0 TSI vRS

small additions:
roof bars + box
heko wind deflectors
hatchbag
bumper protector
travall dog guard (skoda had none in stock)

So far after almost 4 months and 3200 miles of ownership i have managed an average of 30mpg through fairly mixed driving which i am a little disappointed with (the box has only sat on for about 250 miles).

Can't really fault the car in many other aspects, the wife finds it easy to drive and having the DSG really does take the stress out of driving. It has been perfect for moving stuff out of the house and doing IKEA runs etc. However now that the clio 200 is gone it may need to step up to the plate in terms of driving enjoyment. Not sure if the standard tyres are up to the job or if the engine is pushing a bit more than the quoted 220ps as it is very keen to break traction.

Almost convinced what i really need is the 280ps superb estate. ;) So may need to go down the tuning box route.

Looks great!

Just got off the phone myself, car has been delivered just going through the checks, annoyingly I'm busy until next Thursday but it'll be worth the wait.

Not heard about mine yet. I think I ordered around the same time as you as well...

Must be lost in the post.... :)

Bridgestone S001's by any chance? Got them on mine and they are rubbish (& I've got the less powerful diesel vrs)
Going to get them off and put some Michelin PS4's on. The bridgestones can go back on when the lease is up.

Think the tyres are pretty random on Skoda's - they don't seem to have a deal with anyone. When I got mine back in 2011 it came with Conti SC3's on. People ordering at the same time as me had Bridgestone and Good Year.

As a fair percentage of people (less knowledgeable) will take a car in when it needs new tyres and just say to the guy "Same as what is already on there" you'd have thought marketing deals would be struck between firms.

mine came with conti's - horrible things. Now run goodyear eagle f1 which I've never had any issues with.

On a side not - 28k mileage and car was in for 2nd service yesterday (covered under free servicing when I bought the car - Oil/filter etc)

However needed rear pads and discs changed as well. Discs were quite badly corroded as well (dealer sent me a video of them from the underside of the car)

£250. A little disappointed after just 28k mileage as I'm a fairly relaxed driver and not a mad man or anything.

About 2 seconds to clear my front screen with a small amount of warm water. Did the whole car in less than 15 secs :D

You say that is if it is more convenient than simply pressing a button :p

Heated front windscreens are great. :D

Now I cannot say that about the SC3's at all. 40k miles mine covered and offered excellent grip throughout their life. Was so impressed I replaced them with the SC5's when they eventually needed replacing - shame the SC5's had a faster wear rate.

Bad on those discs. Mine is on 70k miles now - all original discs and pads and no requirement to change yet.

Same in '05. Pot luck on the Fabia vRS if you got Michelin Pilot, Conti SC2 or Bridgestone Turanza ER30. I got the Bridgestones...
