Skoda

ive been tempted to do this for years on the mk4. bet it improves tyre life too

I kept holding out for a second hand one but when/if they came up for sale they were only £20-£30 or so cheaper than a new one. Wifey and Mum went halves and bought this for me. Hands down best thing that I've fitted to the car :)

Depends really. They are 312mm (standard) and unfitted Pagid discs and pads last year. They are fine for the type of road driving that info, I aware that try do fade pretty quickly when being pushed hard.

Obvious upgrade would be LCR Brembo's but they are quite expensive.

I found my fronts lasted a lot longer with the ARB fitted. Very good mod for the money IMHO.

As for brakes I found that after fitting dot 5 the standard setup was more than up for what I needed.

The standard 288mm setup was absolutely fine on my car, but then i "upgraded" it to 312mm and i used pagid parts from ECP.

Theyve never been as good since

Nice mod on the anti rollbar. In hindsight I wouldve got a can of spray wax and covered the bar and fixings as mine is looking tired now, powdercoating has fell off in parts too.

Close to pulling the trigger on the new vrs mk3 estate! Lovely looking car - just waiting on a bit more to-ing and fro-ing over price etc with the dealer.

I'll be looking at the Mk3 in about 18 months time - by which time we should have some "previously enjoyed" models around.
The standard spec is quite good to be honest and there aren't a major amount of extras I'd want to add.
My local main dealer has promised me a good test drive once they have a demonstrator in - so will be nice to see how it compares to my current Mk2.5

dealer near me has vrs diesel estate DSG in as demo. Not interested in dsg but going for a test drive in next day or so. Had a sit in it today and it's a very nice cabin, great seats and good looking car

0% apr, 3 years free servicing and 3 year road side assistant, £30 a year road tax for diesel manual estate!

Yer - I've seen that a few dealers have diesel's in for test. Apparently the petrol's are a month or so away and it's that which I want to go for a drive in.
I'll personally probably be looking for the petrol manual hatch.

Thinking about a Petrol Estate myself. Hoping to drive one over the weekend. I've been waiting for all 3 cars I'm interested in to hit the roads:

Golf GTI
Focus ST
Octavia vRS

I've now got to work out which one makes most financial sense (if any!). 0% APR sounds good but at the same time I struggle to see how PCP benefits anyone other than the dealer.

Currently own a MK5 GTI which I've had nearly 5 years. I like the fact it is still worth a reasonable amount of money, even now (unlike the other two equivalents). It would be nice to have something bigger though (for family and bikes). The Focus (in Estate guise) is a "bit" bigger, the Octavia is huge.

The drive of the Focus is very good, the interior less so. I wasn't blown away by the new Golf when sitting inside but I probably need to drive one because it's supposed to be a very good car. The Octavia was a nice place to be inside and I'll see what it's like to drive over the weekend.

I don't usually buy new - I usually buy at 1 year old, which I could do with the Focus (and therefore remove the first year of hard depreciation) but to buy now would mean getting a new Golf or Octavia.

Decisions....Decisions.....

You'll be waiting a while for a new vrs to be a year old, as it's not on the road till 1st August officially.

Typical - went to dealers yesterday to get figures for vrs estate, 9am. Left with the promise that I would get some figures later that morning sent to me on email. Nothing all day yesterday, call dealers this morning to arrange test drive, had to leave a message.

Left another message 30 mins ago to request a call back.

Now 3.30pm and not a single call or contact from dealers. Worst bit is the sale guy is someone I've know personally for about 15 years and no contact.

Wonder why car sales people get a bad rep?? If nothing from them by tomorrow - i'll just go elsewhere and find another dealer.

was considering a VRS gen 2.5 - with the new Chain Driven engine

read some quite worrying threads on Golf GTI mk6 forums ref some people being unlucky to get chain slip causing damage to the engine - is this concern also with the VRS or does it have a different design ?

It is as "much of a concern" across the whole VAG line.
I put that part in quotes because yes, there has been the odd report of it happening, however there has also been the odd report of a belt failing and there have been many thousands of people who haven't had the issue (because they don't tend to post on forums and say my chain hasn't broken).

There are some nice prices to be had on the mk2.5 - probably worth waiting to see the mk3 start moving in numbers and I'd expect the prices to drop further.

Still bugger all from the dealers. Very very poor consider I've known the guy 15 years personally.

If nothing by Monday will just go to another one.

test drove the vRS estate petrol manual today. Lovely motor. a good 35 min drive on motorway, a road and back roads. Very impressive car. Doesn't feel like an estate when driving and can certainly shift!

Just about to pull the trigger on the diesel version, getting close to target figure of a decent monthly payment. Happy to play the waiting game with the dealers.

How's it going? :) I think I'm going to have a good look at the new vrs estate (petrol/manual) within the next few weeks. The hatch would probably suit me fine but I just don't get the look of that spoiler!

Have you specced any options?
