Has anyone got sky broadband yet?
I just got a second email from them saying that soon it will be available in my area.
If anyone has got it then wots it like?
Im currently with bt on max about 2.3mb download speed.
I have sky tv aswell.
Seems like a good deal if it works out ok.

I have heard nothing from them since registering weeks ago. I registered again yesterday just incase they lost my registration of interest...

Its a good deal except from the fact that they install hidden P2P software on your PC which sucks away the bandwidth you pay for.

im guessing it done through satelites im guessing its going to have high latency, would i avoid this if i want to play games etc?

It's a broadband connection, how could that install software?

If they give you disc with 'skybybroadband' on, then just don't install it.

Sky really have messed their broadband product up as people simply don't know what it is they are getting for the money nor what technology is being used etc.
Maybe it is because at this veryh moment only around 20% of the UK are going to be able to get their "super cheap" option and they don't want to upset people.

Sky broadband is just broadband by another name. It's wired, it used ADSL technology.
To get the "super cheap" and "super fast" Sky broadband you will need to be on an exchange that has been LLU by Sky (they bought out Easynet for instant roll-out ability).
So if your exchange has LLU Easynet (at the moment around 20% of the UK) then the faster/cheap/free option will be available to you.
If not then the "Connect" options are the only options - this is basically ADSL Max under the Sky name.

Sky claim that they will increase their current 20% UK coverage to 70% over the next 18 months.
However as with the initial BT ADSL launch don't expect to get it for a long time if you're not in a major town and forget about ever seeing it if you're out in the sticks.

Not quite. If your exchange can do UKOnline LLU, you should be able to get Sky Broadband. If you can get Easynet, it's not guaranteed.

70% of households - (roughly) 1000 exchanges gives you that.

They don't force you to install the software, what your talking about is completly different to the adsl. The software with the p2p feature is the movie access where you can download all the moves etc. This is in no way related to the adsl offering although like said i'd expect sky to supply it along with the adsl.

Indeed, plus how can it suck your bandwidth away if you dont have anything that others want to download?

Been looking at this, seems cheap, then get upgraded when its available in my area. Would anyone recommend it, or is the extra few quid worth staying with nildram?

From what i've seen Sky Broadband is free to Sky subscribers. Just subscribe to skys basic package and get free broadband.... and loads of channels.... ;)

I have had an email saying I can get the free skybroadband however to keep my place in the queue I have to migrate within 10 days. I have requested a MAC from Eclipse and they are dragging their feet. Taken 3 days just to get a response.

Pub talk or have you got evidence of this?

I'm very interested in this, my auntie and uncle currently have a 56k dial up internet connection, they subscribe to sky, can they get sky broadband, their local exchange supports the following:

BT Wholesale ADSL
BT Wholesale ADSL Max
BT Wholesale SDSL
Bulldog LLU
Tiscali LLU

They wont use the internet that often, just the odd bit of browsing and checking emails, so they would probably go for the free 2Mbit, 2GB monthly cap option.
