Sky Fibre Optic

Why isn't it 1000/1000 from the get go?

Not sure if it's firmware related with Sky. With TalkTalk we install the firmware ourselves whether it's for business or residential but this is the first Sky job I've done and we were told it's just plug and play.

If there's still an issue I'm sure we'll hear about it.

All the connections from the cabinet were within spec :)

Has anyone on Sky who uses the Asus RT-N66U with the Merlin firmware got IPv6 enabled and working? If so, what settings did they use? Native, Tunnel 6to4, Tunnel 6in4, Tunnel 6rd or Static IPv6?

IPv6 on Sky is something that is being tested.. you have to have opted in to the trial to get it

I got the letter about the £4 increase for the phone, so i switched to the Pay As You Talk one, where i'll be paying nowt, as i don't have a phone plugged in, this lines only for my Fibre. :p

All i'll be paying, is the extra £1 a month for the line rental.

I did the same thing, also only use sky for broadband.

its active already for a million+ sky adsl customers, if you on adsl try configuring dhcp6 that is the most likely to work.

Their fttc ipv6 service seems a quiet non public trial currently.

In people's experience, do Sky offer deals on fibre broadband if you are already a TV customer?
My Infinity 2 contract is up for renewal on the 5th of November.
I'm currently paying them £42/month for Infinity 2 and the line rental.

On the Sky website Fibre Unlimited Pro (closest to Infinity 2) is listed as £30/month and then £17.40/month for line rental - so £47.40 a month. So immediately more expensive than BT, not going to move.
Before I start getting hold of Sky sales, am I likely to get a deal on this if I'm already a Sky TV customer?
I'm not a big Sky customer, no premium features, just wondered if I'm likely to be offered a deal to move over to them?

So its not possible to run IPv6 internally and present an IPv4 address on the Internet?

Not really. You can run IPv6 inside your network though and use IPv4 for everything that doesn't support IPv6 - such as your Internet connection.

You probably already are running IPv6 internally if you have a relatively modern OS. Do an ipconfig and look for the link-local IPv6 address. That's pingable from another client on the network.

Deals on Pro are few and far between but you can get Unlimited 40/10 for £10 a month for a year with free activation atm.

that's as good as it gets - I'm on £20 a month and £9.99 line rental for 10 months on Fibre pro

I think I'd be pushing my luck if I asked for that even though I want to up my speed a little with Fibre Pro. I've only just started paying for my Sky bill after fifth months for free by a nice credit bonus I got for joining. :p

Sorry - didn't thank people for the posts earlier.
As I'm not a current Sky fibre customer I don't think retentions will help - could threaten to leave Sky TV I guess and ask retentions for an "amazing fibre pro deal" to stay.
Plus net requires an 18 month contract, but over the 18 months I'd save £7/month over BT.
So may start with BT next week and see if they will drop my £42/month to £37/month for the next 12 months and take things from there.

I'm pretty much in the same boat really. Trying to decide between Plusnet (18 month contract and an engineer call out are not attractive though)Sky and BT.
