Sky Fibre Optic

I can't get Sky to do anything about the line rental. :(

Currently paying £10 for Fibre Unlimited & £16.40 (soon to be £17.40) for line rental.

I've been offered twice the line rental @ £9.99 for 10 months on a 12m contract. Strange, just keep pushing for it!

What does Fiber multicast and copper multicast mean ?

If I remember rightly Fibre Multicast is for live TV video streams over fibre e.g. BT Sport, I think...

I know, I know - call them.
It just seems for some reason Sky seem to hide the "Pro" package on their site and I just cannot seem to find it.
Currently I'm spending the following:

Sky TV only - £36.00/month
BT (Up to 74mb) - £38.59/month

My current BT contract ends in November and I'll need to call them anyway - to make sure they don't start charging me for BT Sports.
Trying to get an idea online what Sky charge to add their Pro fibre package to our basic TV to see what kind of price I need to ask BT to match.
But everything on Sky's site seems to point at the standard up to 36mb.
The estimator only shows 59mb for me - however on Infinity 2 I'm connected at 72mb (assume that is just an estimate and I shouldn't see a 13mb drop if I switch to Sky?).

Sky Fibre Pro is £30 a month plus line rental
I got them down to £20 a month and £9.99 line rental a while back

As soon as I get the letter about the increase I will call them back and request another 10 months or so at the discounted rate.

I get 60/15 on the pro package but my line stats aren't great so I'm happy with that.

Now I've just buried my head in the sand over this until I got a call off Vodafone yesterday offering me a deal. They said that I could leave sky without a penalty as they were increasing the line rental, come with us and you can have upto 38mb for £10 a month & line rental for £10 a month with an inclusive call package as I was a Vodafone red customer. So at 14:00 I rang sky and got through to retentions who were obviously aware of what Vodafone were doing and matched it then reduced the line rental to £6.99 :D I cant complain now. Ok I'm not getting the inclusive call package but hey I have a mobile for all that.

On another subject, since I rolled back my router firmware my router has not dropped once & my speed is now 37mb down & 8mb up :D Note to sky... dont break what was working fine ;)

Hi All,

Just moved house and had my Sky fibre moved over.

In the old house I used to have a white BT Openreach modem plugged into the phone socket and then I bought an ASUS RT AC56u to replace the Sky router and with a bit of tinkering all worked fine.

In the new house however we no longer have the BT modem so will my ASUS still work being plugged straight into the socket or will I need a different router?

Also, I still have the BT modem so if need be I could connect it up in the same way as the old house, didn't know if this would work or not?

Cheers

Make your mind up laddy. :D

Sorry my bad! :)

What I meant was, Sky have moved the line and when the engineer came he said I won't need the BT Openreach modem anymore and just plugged the Sky router straight in. (he didn't want to know about the ASUS as you'd expect!)

I still physically have the BT modem so I wanted to know if,

- I can unplug the Sky router and simply plug the ASUS straight into the socket?

or

- Will I have to unplug the new Sky router, plug in the BT modem again and then plug the ASUS into the BT modem?

or

- Will I have to buy a different router all together to replace the new Sky router? and if so what type?

Hopefully explained better!!

Thanks :D

Just have the same setup you used to have at your old house, nothing has changed & will more than likely work just aswell unless its an eci bt box & I think the sky hub is better

Thanks for the replies all

Plugged in the BT router and the router etc etc and it's all fired up and working again.

It's a BT eci modem so I'm guessing by the comments made that it's not the best piece of kit!

What VDSL2 router are people currently recommending and would buying one and replacing the whole lot make a difference?

I got the letter about the £4 increase for the phone, so i switched to the Pay As You Talk one, where i'll be paying nowt, as i don't have a phone plugged in, this lines only for my Fibre. :p

All i'll be paying, is the extra £1 a month for the line rental.

There's nothing wrong with the ECI modem.

Just installed this for a Sky customer today.

Jealous :(

I used the recent price increases to re-negotiate.
Got £10 a month off my Fibre pro for 12 months :)

They seem to be offering reduced line rental to some people, but it seems its to people who also take their tv service (I do not)
