Sky Fibre Optic

Just had fibre installed today, are the stats below about right? I'm 500m from the cabinet by road.

Connection speed 31121 / 5106
Line attenuation 23.9dB / 0.0dB
Noise margin 6.2dB / 6.6dB

Anyone upgraded to the new hub from an SR102? If so, what's the coverage like. Mine seems to drop out from time to time, but only for my bedroom, naturally.

I have it but I can't really comment as I also have a SkyQ mini box which acts as a hotspot in my room and directly below my bedroom is where the Q box sits so I get great coverage throughout the house and indeed did before with the Hub 2 as well. It has 5GHz but that doesn't penetrate walls as well as 2.4GHz so it's very possible it won't improve matters.

For the price I've ordered one - after spending about 40 minutes going around the houses  :p - so I'll see how I get on. Any '3rd party' stuff is about double the price or more and almost every feature on them I will not use. Hopefully its wireless coverage is like the Time Capsule.

Mine first connected at full speed and has never dropped even with a problem with the outside cable they replaced, after that my noise margin increased more.

Connection Speed 39998 kbps 9995 kbps
Line Attenuation 12.6 dB 0.0 dB
Noise Margin 18.1 dB 22.22 dB

Connection Speed 40000 kbps 9999 kbps
Line Attenuation 12.7 dB 0.0 dB
Noise Margin 22.8 dB 22.22 dB

Cabinet is about 100m away on foot.

I could be connected to either cabinet on the estate, both are at least 200 meters away and will naturally have **** cabling. Stats have been pretty much identical for the last year.

Connection Speed 40000 kbps, 8215 kbps
Line Attenuation 22.4 dB, 0.0 dB
Noise Margin 9.9 dB, 6.6 dB

Wifi on the SR102 is inconsistent. Also the wifi in my area seems congested (5 hotspots per channel 1 6 and 11). I just had 500 ping for 10 minutes in CSS, I couldn't do anything in the game the whole time apart from send messages very slowly lol.

What's the best route to go when upgrading this router? Don't want to spend more than £100 for a router(+modem?).

I saw a new Sky Hub on their site but I couldn't tell if it was only for internet and Tv customers

Try some Ethernet Cable! ;)

If you're addicted to Wireless, then try the Q Hub. Works well for me in an apartment block so far.

Q Hub seems to be working very nicely for me. Has slotted itself into channel 6 and 34 for each band without me having to do anything, which is a first. Range is improved, but the wireless speed is now MUCH better than before, whether close or far.

Plus - why does it take about 3 minutes for it to reboot every time I set a fixed IP address for a device. :(

I've only added two devices, and it didn't decide the work like that for some reason. Like when I did it in the old hub, I pressed cancel, did the second and then rebooted. But for reasons only known to technology, only the second one was in there. Hammer time if it does the same later on. ;)

Time to get this new Sky hub then I think :) I of course would rather use ethernet, but it's not feasible in my situation.

I actually have a Linksys EA6700 (AdvancedTomato firmware) router in my bedroom set up in wireless ethernet bridge mode, so my Xbox consoles and PC are connected to that with ethernet.
