Sky Fibre Optic

Thank you for confirming. I just started reading a few pages back on this thread and noticed someone mention wire-shark, plus Sky hubs aren't meant to be all that. I have a spare TP Link router that did a decent job for range and throughput (bought it because our VM router at the time had terrible range). Could I use wire-shark to copy Sky details so I could use their router in modem mode and the TP Link router to do the rest?

Yes, but why not test with the Sky Router first? I had zero problems with it. Also check the TP Link has a VDSL modem as if it doesn't it won't work at all.

same - I tried various 3rd party routers but no were as reliable and stable as the SR102 :D:D

MissChief - any deals at all on Fibre pro for existing customers before I leave to BT?? I've been with sky for 15 years now ADSL/Fibre and don't want to leave (mainly due to worries over new router/speed/reliability) Sky have been bang on but @ £30 a month compared to £20 with BT plus cashback plus £100 pre-paid card it's hard to justify staying.

Why not ask for the pro package @£20 they will do it ,you have been with sky longer than me ,just ring them ,you get the automated voice asking what you want today ,say cancellation, when you get through just say you would like to stay with Sky but there are better deals out there, also ask for a line rental reduction ,thats how i got the £50 bill credit

I've tried that twice now and also twice on online chat and all 4 times - got nothing despite being polite but firm that i'm leaving.

What is hilarious is I joined that forum in 2012 to ask for help and I ended up solving the problem. a lot of headache when fibre first came out to get this working with my existing setup.

sky uses MER authentication which is annoying and not widely supported by third party off the shelf routers. So bare that in mind. i am currently using pfsense which does support dhcp option 61

I don't work in retention so can't comment on current offers but I have seen a few customers with £10 off any fibre service. Which does grate slightly as staff get nothing off Pro, only normal Unlimited!

I called Sky yesterday to see what they could offer on Sky fibre unlimited, I had been thinking of upgrading for a while and looked at BT and Plus net. Also Virgin laid their cables on our estate about 6 weeks ago, but no one has been round yet and it only took them 14 years to do that...lol

The first person I spoke to at Sky would only do me fibre unlimited for £20 a month plus the £50 activation and £7 for the delivery of the router. So asked for my Mac code and was put through to retentions, were I explained I had looked around at fibre deals and Sky was not the best deal for me. I was then offered fibre unlimited for £10, no activation fee and the £7 charge for the delivery of the router. So it's just costing me £2.50 a month more for my broadband :D

Any idea how long it takes to switch between sky standard BB to fibre?

New Sky fibre router installed and seems to be doing a good job, range wise. I will probably hold off expanding the network (if possible) for now.

Do you have Sky TV?

you must be some man - tried calling again today - spoke to a nice lady in Broadband retention - who confirmed to me again there is NO current deals whatsoever to be had on fibre pro. She could offer me a £3 a month discount on line rental but other than that, nothing.

I even told her I run my business from home so need Fibre Pro for work purposes but again - no offers to give me, nothing she could do.

So looking at this sensibly - Sky Fibre Pro (I get 55/15) will be £30 a month plus £17.99 line rental for next 12 months (ignoring any calls)

£575.88 for the year.

Go to BT - Infinity one package (up to 52mb) - £20 a month plus £17.99 line rental. PLus £49 activation fee.

£504.88 minus £131 cashback via topcashback plus £100 pre-paid mastercard.

So in effect - £273 plus BT sports included.
