Just ordered a 1Tb WD EVCS drive :)
I dont have any recordings to transfer over to this 1TB drive.

I will use an internal SATA connection on my PC to connect the removed SkyHD drive -> make an image of it -> remove drive -> install new 1Tb drive into PC -> copy image on to it

Can i do the above using Copy+ ?

Yup, should take no more than 30mins, including fiddling around connecting/disconnecting.

Check that you have the correct screwdriver, you need a T10 torx screwdriver. I know B&Q do one in store, but check stocks. I did get a set of the security bits from another store, but the screws holding the lid on are recessed about 70mm into the lid, so you need a torx t10 with a long thin shaft.

Watch out when installing the new drive as it is longer than the drive in there, so will be a very tight fit. You might have to bend the casing whilst holding it to get teh screws into the new HDD. Plus the power cable from the back of the box might be trapped between the hdd and the edge of something else. Not something to worry about but just giving the advice so you arn't shocked.

I'm looking to upgrade my Sky HD box this week. .
Could anyone advise me which hard drive would be a good for my box i was looking at getting a Western Digital 1TB Hard Drive SATAII 7200rpm 32MB Cache - OEM Green Power would that be any good?

Though i have found a good price on a Hitachi DeskStar 1TB Hard Drive SATAII 7200rpm 16MB Cache but not to sure if there any good?

Thomson 4E300E
EPG Sky+8.3.2

Thanks.

Did you zip tie the power and HDD cables yourself Ad or did it come like that?

It's like that by default on the Pace box.

I just chose to cut mine and re-zip them after I took the pictures (easier to install the drive).

This is not strict, but I can show you which drives NOT to use, and which ones work 100%.

Check my original post for a step-by-step walkthrough for the Pace box.

You'll do it easy

See the reply from EVH below.

I just rammed mine is as there was just about enough room. Snipping them probably is easier and won't affect anything or cause problems.

I thought that was something that Pace added to the recalled boxes? Or are both of yours new.

They only added x2 cable ties. The fear was that the unsecured cables (mainly the power cable carrying the 240V AC to the PSU) could become trapped and or rub, leading to it ecoming exposed. Tiny tiny risk as you don't normally load these boxes cyclickly (ooo er) unless you let you cat bounce up and down on it, so nothing to worry about.

If you can get a PACE then go for it, they seem to have the least amount of problems, and are regarded as having the best PQ too. Plus they are compatible with a lot of 1tb HDDs.

Well i've just installed a Samsung SpinPoint F1 HD103UJ on my Thomsons Box and it seems to be working fine .

Took an hour and a half to copy the drive over but i now have 88% free :).

Well i've just installed the WD10EAVS 1Tb. Could'nt find the EV model any more - think they are discontinued :(
I was going to send it back but thought what the hell, might aswell install it.

The install was a dodell! Really easy ;)

So far it seems to be working ok - no problems.

Not sure if the 8Mb cashe will cause any issues

You have the PACE right ?

If so then it should be fine going by other reports, great boxes these :D

Yep, got the PACE :)

Just one annoying thing with this HDD though - the noise.
Its not as quiet as the original drive.

Anyway of enabling Acoustic Management on these?

Might have to change it for a Sammy SpinPoint if not.....

Damn WD for discontinuing the EV series of HDD's!!!!!!!!

Nice one. My Sky HD box has just gone out of warranty so I'm going to have a go at upgrading my box to a 1 Terabyte drive. I'm down to 8% space left at the moment.
