Sky HD

Indeed there is a 1 month grace period in which you can cancel.
However I've never known anyone being allowed to keep their HD box if they cancel within the first month.
The £75 box is on the condition you take the HD mix for 12 months.
If it wasn't then everyone would buy the box for £75 and then cancel the HD subscription after 30 days.

Is this poster saying he got Sky HD for £75, cancelled the HD mix within 30 days and neither had to pay the extra for his HD box or return it?
Well OK - you are the very first person this has happened to - nice one.

You're exactly right :) (Well £75 for the box and £30 for installation, which didn't involve much as I already had the dish and cables.)

If they had said I had to give the box back I would probably have changed my mind about cancelling too because I didn't want to go back from HDMI :)

Well sky are useless.
Had it installed the other day, but guess what it didn't include the movie pack.
So phoned up and initially they said they couldn't put sky movies on at 50% as the offer had ended after much arguing and the foreign guy who was useless going and speaking to a different team, they agreed to put it on and should be activated within 24hours. 48hours and it's still not on there.

Is there actually an English call centre I can get through to, or some sort of complaints office who will actually make a half arsed effort to sort it out?

Crazy, i know its not sky hd but whenever i've altered my sky package..even over the internet site portal thingy, its changed within a few hours without even having to make a call.

I'll send you the number in your email tomorrow, they will get it sorted mate.

Guru - I expect they will realise and ask for the box back, maybe even threatening court action as I know someone who they threatened that to with a Sky+ box they didn't return. Or maybe cut of your card so you can't watch anything as it's paired to the box. Otherwise enjoy it whilst it lasts, and maybe you just got lucky

Will the sky install engineer re-route the cables for me, when I get my sky+ upgraded to HD?
I really want to move the TV etc from its current location in the front room (right near where the cable comes in from the dish) to the opposite side of the room. This would mean routing the cable around a fireplace and doorway to the other side of the room ( I will have to put an extension lead around another doorway so its got power)

HE should do, if not am sure he could be tempted by a tip ;)

Or ask him to make the cabling longer, and do it yourself.

I would say yes it is. You can indeed play it on a normal TV, it just looks like a very nice picture, but naturally not up to HD standards.

Is this actually a fact? I may about sky hd having a slightly better picture on the other channels than sky plus? :p

I've never heard anyone mention that before.

Anyone else with skyHD noticed this? or am i getting the wrong end of the stick?

Yeah you have, he is referring to playing the HD content through a SDTV

I got Sky HD before I got my HDTV, and Sky HD channels through a SD TV do look better than SD channels on the same TV.

As far as I am aware, the SD channels look exactly the same on a Sky HD box as on a Sky+ box.

So I currently get my HD for £24 per month (deal through work), I plan to tell Sky that I will continue my subs at that level once the deal ends next month, if not then it's bye bye to Sky!

In theory yes, but this depends on what your setup is like and whether you have a better scaler available than found within the skyHD box. In my case the difference was massive due to being able to use HDMI, back with normal Sky+ i was limited to S-video due to my projectors' connections.

You can pretty much say goodbye to sky then, unless your willing to downgrade your package.
