Sky HD

Anyone else who has had a Virgin V+ box find that the picture on SD channels, especially ITV channels and to a slightly lesser degree BBC channels, are much worse in comparison. Much softer picture, text appears a little fuzzy and there is picture noise apparent on the screen even when viewed from over 10ft away from a 42" let alone 50"?

I have the new Samsung HD boxes btw and have a Panasonic TH42PZ70 and TH50PZ70 both having the same symptoms.

Or can anyone else offer any insight into this?

Cheers guys as I wont be and have no intention of getting movies or sports I'm going to stick to just the sky+ box. the extra £10 a month seems pointless at the moment.

looking at the space stuff on discovery says it's anything but...... pointless

edit....
The toshiba LCD looks crap for SD, but pretty good for HD.

quite a few SD channels looks ok on my Toshiba, far better than they did on the ordinary + box.

The BBC channels are some of the best SD ones on my projector so I would suspect that it's a set up issue of some kind.

Can get Sky HD Boxes for £179 off eBay which is what we've done, then just be able to get the free HD Content.

That is a perfectly good option but if you end up having problems with it Sky won't want to know and will stick you with the standard £60 or £65 'swap out' fee. If a unit is not bought or registered through them they won't honour any warranty in my experience, leaving you to go back to the Ebay Supplier etc. If you bought a brand new box this way and then pay Sky to swap out, they will leave you with an old reconditioned (or not even checked!), second hand box 99% of the time too so be warned!

Nothing wrong with buying outside of a Sky contract but best that you know what you may have to do if you encounter problems. I bought mine off Ebay and even though they took my £10/month, they didn't want to know when mine started playing up. I just fixed mine myself in the end as I knew my box was brand new and I wanted to keep it that way! The fix cost less than the Sky call out fee that they wanted!

Sorry missed your post.
Been ahaving problems getting my deposit back so haven't subscribed yet. Maybe to late but sent ylu an email. I'll check on friday.

Just replied.

Thank you so much... Have an internet cookie... :)

All 6 mixes
Movie Mix
Sky+HD box
Standard Box
Sky HD subscription
Sky Multiroom Subscription
Sky Broadband MAX (they reckon between 8-16mb)

For £52 a month + 75 installation. They wouldn't do it for £49 pounds like the offer...

However great news everyone.
Phone up 08442410486 and say you have an introduce a friend offer code. They don't even take the code. Tried giving the code and they weren't interested in it.

Thanks again Begbie

that looks like a very tasty deal.

Had HD installed today, looks awesome. I had a Samsung box installed. Even normal channels look crisper, possibly as its over HDMI etc.

The HD channels look incredible, very pleased so far!

good to hear - any lip sync issues and is the box really noisy? loads of people have been complaining about this

Not noticed any lip sync issues so far. No idea what people are saying about the noise, I certainly can't hear it so they either sit very close or have micro sensitive hearing.

Gits! Owell only £3 :p

No problem bud, hope you enjoy it ;)

Edit: O did you still get the half price for the year?

Whats the ethernet port at the back of the hd box for ?

Future proofing really, much like the USB ports on the Sky+ boxes.

Sky do have some mad idea that they will be able to use a home broadband for something simliar to Virgins offerings. I think they fail to realise that without a cable line, the majority of homes do not have the kind of bandwidth it would require.

Most likely they will never be used.

I got SKY HD for £75 and I didn't think it was worth the £10 a month. I emailed Sky and cancelled the HD Mix within the first month. So now I have a HD box upscaling all my tv and I get all the free to air HD channels too :D For £18 a month I'm more than happy with that :)

My box is Samsung too I think, it has an E-Sata port on the back! does anyone know what I can do with that?

Cheers,

G

I thought you were meant to be tied to a 12 month HD sub when you take the £75 HD box offer?
