*** Sky Q Thread ***

Thought as soon as you order a mini box and multiscreen installation goes down to £60 anyway?
+agree

unless folks are precise about which package too it is all comparing apples and pears

variety £32 300+ channels, 4,500+ episodes of kids' shows
box sets £38 350 addictively good Box Sets, plus over 350 channels including more than 50 in HD. Also includes 4,500 episodes of kids shows.
cinema £18
sport £27.50 (or £18 with cinema)
sport HD £6

I really don't get all the hate for the Q's UI, the old interface had barely changed in decades and was one of the reasons I dropped Sky a few years back.

be objective !
pros ... ??????
cons :- no manual recording or radio station series record
interface scaled for lowest common denomnator of low resolution touch tablet interfaces
no search based on saved keywords
no search through recordings
no textual list of recordings
no favourites

... but these and others have been documented ad nauseam
UI has been revised but they seem to be deaf to paying audience
should have been a superset of previous interface, parents and less literate older relations would have adapted easily.
even windows 10 does not rip up win 7 UI

Can't believe that in this day and age you still have to pay extra for HD.

Was just abouts to order the original package + Sky sports for £24 but after speaking to sky i would have add Box Sets + Sky Sports HD (that just adds HD to sports on top of the original price) to get HD sport channels. Turned out £9 extra a month, but £9 to just add HD to your sports pack.... Deal breaker for me.

Do you need an internet connection for Sky Q to be installed ? We are moving house and the earliest appointment for an openreach engineer to install the phone line is 3 days after the last day i can choose for a sky engineer to install the tv. Can it be done without a internet connection or can i use my phone as a hotspot for them to setup the Sky Q box ?

They don't like doing it but If it's a single box install it can be done. If it's a Mini box install they can tether to their own iPad's but it then makes it difficult to get the mesh working correctly. It may be best to reschedule the TV install later this week as you should then be able to choose a later date.

whats the current deals for sky q to be installed for existing customers ? when i had it installed it was just a fee of 20 pounds but this was last year any installation costs or rental cost now ?

Guys I have a long journey to St Ives Saturday, can I download content to my son's android tablet so they can watch programs/films on route? They have plenty of storage via a micro SD card I installed... Thanks

Recordings can be download if you have Q multi screen and access to the Q app.

Or you can download box sets / movies via sky go if you have sky go extra which is free with multi screen or £5 a month.

Also, you cannot store to an SD card, has to be internal memory.

yay finally I can just get an ordinary sky Q box with no multiroom...

boooo 199 installation fee???? they can do one!

plus if they need to run new cables I just cant see how they can do it now after my new wooden flooring went down

You can use the existing 2 cables for the Sky box.......Obviously that's only if you currently have Sky/+

Seemed to have an update this morning and stv hd and channel 4 hd are no longer 103 and 104 by default. Channels are SD only. Scotland East region. Only 2 months into my package.

Anyone else the same?

Regional channels can't/aren't allowed to swap the SD and HD locations round IIRC.

103 and 104 have always been SD,

It's up to the channels themselves. As there aren't yet HD versions of all the localised stations BBC England regions as well as ITV regions and channel 4 decided to remain as they are and not move to HD channels. Some areas like BBC Scotland and NI have changed to HD on 101 though.
