*** Sky Q Thread ***

All going wrong so far lol......Netflix wouldn't link as I was using a different email to my Sky account, nice lady on the phone sorted that.
Now I cant set 4K on the Sky Q box, not sure if its my HDMI cables or the ARC on the TV.
Its a panasonic 950g - I have the Sky Q box going to a 4K input on the amp, then up to the TV to HMDI 2, which is for ARC.

TV doesn't state any HDMI are not 4K compatible. The amp is, so guessing its the cable. I do have a spare 'new' sky HDMI so might try that up to the TV.

Can only get it working if I put the sky q direct to TV. Amp is a Sony str1040. From what I've read it should work?

Direct to TV first. If that works try both cables. If that works then amp.

some Panasonic TV’s only have UHD/4K on certain inputs, usually marked beside the port.

Direct to TV works. Using the two sky hdmi cables doesn't work through the amp, eventhough is 4k. Hmmm...

Also, my mini box is stuck on the old Netflix account, grrrr. Everything's going wrong lol
Fixed, was a bit dubious logging in as didn't want to reactivate the account and pay, but it's OK

Edit - jsut read,. although its hdmi 2.0 its not HDCP2.2, so it wont work. I think all the 4K plastered over the back is the HDMI ports to use for 4K upscaling

Options, direct to TV, optical for sound and no HDMI control

New amp..............yay!!!!!!!!!! but she wont like that haha

Sky recently did away with the Sky Q app. However Sky Go app now has all the functionality.

Annoyingly they did away with the remote control functionality. Sky+ boxes could be remote controlled from the app, but you can't do that any more. It's also annoying that you cannot delete shows from the planner using the Sky Go app. Once I've streamed a recording to a device (I frequently watch recordings on an iPad in the kitchen) it's a pain to have to go to the planner on the box to delete the watched show.

Not impressed with the mini box, it sits in the room above the router, but stutters.
Plugged in an Ethernet cable, but that's only for internet stuff, YouTube etc...?
As for actual TV, it's all feed from the main box via WiFi?

That’s not right. Call them up and get an engineer round.

TV can be streamed over ethernet as well.

Sky just make it awkward for some reason. It won't go over to ethernet by default when a cable is plugged in because Sky suck.

Plug the ethernet cable in, reset the network connection on the mini box in options. Then when it comes up with the setup saying press the wps button, don't press anything, just leave it. It takes forever but eventually it will fail and fall back to ethernet. If it still won't have it, you can disable wifi in the service menu (highlight settings, 001 on remote, then select), reset again and then it should be fine.

I have my main box and mini both hardwired and wifi off in the service menu and everything is fine. Sky are just obessed with their wifi and try to force you to use it.

Has Sky Q started pre-downloading movies?

If I go into Sky Cinema, it seems the movies in the premieres section are, at least partially, pre-downloaded, as they have a play icon on them rather than a download one and start playing immediately if I select them.

There's no sign of them in my downloads so I'm wondering if Sky have started pre-downloading the start of some titles into "hidden" storage, a bit like they used to do with Sky Anytime on the old HD boxes?

Who's main Q box needs powering off to make it work?
Twice in under a month I've had to, to make it work.
Otherwise it just sits there doing nothing.

Mine went through a spell of needing to be unplugged as it would just get stuck, happened almost weekly. That seemed to fix itself, then an issue where it would lose a network connection and the only way to restore it would be to unplug it. Again, almost weekly. Thankfully in the last 3 or 4 months, it's been fine.

I have this issue. Also, it gets stuck recording stuff, too. It’s been recording Bond film for the last 9 days and so far has taken up 600Gb! I’ve done a software update and reset it which fixes it for a couple of days.
