*** Sky Q Thread ***

I have just ordered sky Q UHD and and wandering which TV it would be set up on.
I have a Sony KD55X8509C in my livingroom just now and I have a Samsung eu55ru7300 in my bedroom which I could swap with. There both 4k but how do you find out If its 8bit or 10bit.

Yeah the main box is on a LG oled but isnt 4k. We noticed that the picture on both HD and sd channels are not as good as the sky HD box.

The picture on the mini box is then abit worse than the main sky q both in sd and hd, the tele is a newer 4k oled.

I'm not sure what could be done regarding this. The sky guy put a new dish up with new cables, so maybe an issue with the dish? It's pretty much in the same place as the last one.

I did notice when googling the issue that there were a few people who stated they had got sky q and they felt the picture was better on there sky HD box.

Not something ud expect with newer technology. Our sky HD box was a few good years old.

Your 4k TV is scaling on new refined tech. Your old oled is pixel mapping on older tech. I guarantee the 4k looks better than the 1080p tv no matter what you put in to it.

Why not swap the TV's over.

I have 2 oleds a C9 4k on the main q box which looks fine and a b7 4k on the mini box which also looks fine.

I used to have that Sony tv, it's bottom edge lit with an 8bit FRC display not sure on the Samsung sorry.

As will the Sony, 8Bit + FRC will accept a 10Bit signal it uses dithering to display the 10Bit range AFAIK.

Since getting me HDR box I'm having quite an annoying issue. My Q box connects into a Denon AVR (4k, HDR, 10 bit capable) and then into my LG OLED (again, 4k etc etc). I use a Logitech harmony for all of my AV and it's worked pretty much flawlessly since I set it all up. However since installing the new Q box and using the 'watch Sky Q' function, my TV sometimes shows the static/white noise screen. If I turn the TV off and then back on again, Sky Q shows on screen again but it's reset to 1080i. If I then go into settings and enable 4k 10 bit it all works again fine. Anyone had anything similar?

I have the same set up, HDR q box, C9 oled and Denon 4k avr along with a harmony remote, turn CEC off on everything. The only acceptance being for arc on the TV however in the avr you can turn off all CEC functions bar the arc on the TV input. My HDR box also has eco mode disabled.

I've not had the issue since disabling eco mode.

Why do they make downloading UHD HDR programs so awkward? If I download and watch episode 1 it doesn't auto download episode 2 like it does for everything else. Also, each episode I have to go to format and change it before downloading. So irritating.

There’s a weird bug where if you watch an episode. It will download the next episode, but it won’t show up if you back out of the current episode until you completely go out of the menus and back in again. So it doesn’t look like you’ve got the next episode until you faff around.

Regarding UHD, there’s an option to download UHD if available as the default. It’s in preferences section of settings.

So I've spoke to Sky who are going to send out a booster for the router so ill have to see how that goes tomorrow when it turns up. I still cant keep any reasonable connection on the mini box.

Regarding the main box I've checked the signal strength and it is stating good satelite signal, signal strength 80 and quality is 90.

I've found the worst channel is BBC 1 standard def (channel 101), the picture has a thin jumpy line going across the top of the screen. For me the HD channels are nowhere near as crisp as we had on the old sky hd box either.

Both sets are selection on 1080p in settings.

Err, so with F1 fast approaching I just went to schedule the UHD recordings. However...

I have no UHD entry under Featured, nor Sports, nor even the F1 menu! There used to be a "Better in UHD" section under Featured but that's gone now.

If I search for F1 then I get some of this weekend's stuff in UHD (P1,P2 & Qually) but P1 and the race itself are still missing.

What the actual **** Sky?!
