*** Sky Q Thread ***

You could have saved yourself £50 with a 5 minute phone call or a few clicks on their website.

Not worth the hassle to me, others may view differently I appreciate that. I've saved a decent amount on what I was paying as I was out of contract so paying £50 for a plug and play job worked fine for me.

Since when is a few clicks on a website hassle?

Correct me if I'm wrong, there's is no place to "click" a few times to get a free upgrade of a Gen 1 2TB Q box to an HDR compatible box.

So, I'm assuming you mean I should have gone on to the website and reported an non-existent fault on my current box to try and get a free replacement which would hopefully be an HDR compatible one.

If so, that's not the way I do things. If others want to do that, fine by me, but it's not my style. Get over it.

I seem to be experiencing a HDMI handshake issue as often I turn on the box and get no picture so I have to cycle the Sky Q box through Standby. My setup is Sky Q - Denon Amp - LG OLED TV all controlled via a Harmony remote.

Turn off eco mode on sky q turn off hdmi CEC on q box, turn passthrough on on Denon amp, enable only arc on lg TV go to settings on Denon amp and hdmi settings and only enable arc turn off all other settings and also turn off 15 minute standby timer on Denon amp.

I want a HDR box (got a first gen one at the moment) - no issues with it though so would be putting a false statement on the link - is there any comeback from Sky? Do they check the boxes on return, and would it be guaranteed to get a HDR box as a replacement?
In my experience they don’t check a thing. Even if they did test it, your box might have an intermittent fault that they can’t replicate. The chances are high but there’s no guarantee you’ll get an HDR capable box this way, so that’s the risk you have to take.

I wouldn’t recommend Turing off eco mode. The boxes don’t behave very well unless they receive a regular power cycle which eco does, they can lose the mesh. If you insist on turning eco off, make sure all the boxes are set to the same power mode.

Until hdmi CEC is fixed on the boxes it's staying off, coming down in the morning to find the TV or avr on drove me nuts until I worked out that it was eco mode causing it.

Hmm thinking about it I've disabled all hdmi communication since adding Logitech remotes, I may turn it back on see if it still causes issues.

Edit: just read that q boxes power cycle even with eco off.

Since the last software update on the box, I've noticed a slight flicker when watching UHD. Only really noticeable when watching football as the green is flickering ever so slightly. It's only been since the last update, has anyone had this problem? I did Google it but the posts I saw were saying it happened after a much earlier update.

Since getting me HDR box I'm having quite an annoying issue. My Q box connects into a Denon AVR (4k, HDR, 10 bit capable) and then into my LG OLED (again, 4k etc etc). I use a Logitech harmony for all of my AV and it's worked pretty much flawlessly since I set it all up. However since installing the new Q box and using the 'watch Sky Q' function, my TV sometimes shows the static/white noise screen. If I turn the TV off and then back on again, Sky Q shows on screen again but it's reset to 1080i. If I then go into settings and enable 4k 10 bit it all works again fine. Anyone had anything similar?

Not had any issues myself, but that may be because both my TV and AV receiver are both Sony.

Having said that, have you enabled "Enhanced" format mode (likely different on your Denon) for the HDMI port that the Sky Q is hooked up to?

I'll have a look into it, but I'm not sure it'll make any difference. Literally the only thing that has changed is the Sky Q box itself.

Hi Guys

Had a sky man come and put us in a new sky q box today as I wanted Sky Multi room downstairs. The room the multi box has gone is downstairs, where as the main sky q box is on the floor above kind of thing. I've found to have a few issues regarding the connection on the small multi box. We are on BT and the router is also on the same floor as the main box.

A while back I found the wireless broadband connection down in the room where the sky multi box is now was quite poor on my computer so I bought a booster that plugs into the socket and then run an ethernet cable from the booster in the socket to the computer, this really improved things.

Does anybody have any experience or ideas how I could improve the connection to the sky multi room small box. I've also found the picture quality is nowhere as good as the picture on the main box upstairs, once again probably owing to the connection.

I found that when I put the ethernet cable that goes into my pc into the back of the multi box to see if this may help nothing really changed. I looked into the settings but found nothing regarding it being able to be changed from wireless to ethernet wired connection.

Any help would be ideal.

Cheers guys.
