Sky TV (Offers and Advice)

Looking for a bit of advice from the Sky experts on here.
There was a deal floating about on OCuk a few weeks ago for Sky Family, Movies, Sports and Sky Go Extra for £17.25 for 12 months. New customers only. I used this code and added a few extras (Sky Fibre, HD, multiroom), increasing the cost to £60 a month (£120+ after the first year).
Roll on today and I receive my first bill. £98 and that's not including internet (which is being activated this Wednesday).
I phoned up Sky and the person I spoke to has never heard of this deal. They said that someone in the back office would take a look and phone me back by Thursday.
Is this a common problem? Is there anything I can do if they turn around and tell me that this deal doesn't exist/isn't valid?

Are you sure it's the deal that's causing the price? The first bill for services like this is usually for a month and a bit worth of service as it gets billed in advance. For example if you joined on the 1st of the month, bill came on the 7th the bill would be for that week + the following month in advance.
Did I send you the code or was it Khan? It sounds like the free family pack offer and half price movies and sports. You're likely being billed for the broadband and talk since activation up to your bill date and then the month ahead too.

No, it was a different offer. You entered your e-mail address on a website and they e-mailed you a code.

Done the exact same as yourself, I had an email the other day saying my first bill would be £100.90, I phoned them and explained I took this offer and even have a letter itemized to add up to £60.
First person I spoke to refused to believe this letter existed and accused me of making it up, so I went on live chat and they have told me that because my broadband and phone line haven't been activated (had an issue with this so my order was cancelled and reordered) I will be billed the full whack this month and then when the fibre etc is activated the discount's will be applied so going forward my contract should be £60 a month.
I guess I will just have to wait and see what happens after this first month.

I am currently a Virgin Media customer for TV, Phone and Broadband. I'm not going to switch the broadband as I have 160MB of excellent intertubez, but I'm getting a bit tired of the Virgin TV system - I find it slow and the interface frankly dated. Used Sky on holiday in France and it was much more responsive and usable.
I am considering a change to Sky when my VM renewal comes up but one thing would seal the deal for me - getting the Sky F1 channel but without having to have to take all the other Sky sports channels. I detest pretty much all sports so have no interest in them. Are Sky able to offer the F1 package as a part of the basic packages without having to take the rest of the sports channels?

Yes, fingers crossed. I'll let you know if Sky come back with a different answer to me.
Can't be done I'm afraid. F1 for new customers is only available to Sky Sports subscribers.

I'm coming up to the end of my broadband contract. I think I am free to move in September.

That's a shame, in that case I think I'll let Virgin retain my business.
Don't start work until 1 but will email the department when I go in. I asked them a week ago so I'm not best pleased.

So I thought Ill have a gander at the HTML behind it and found there is always a start chat button on the page its just hidden. I un-hide it and click it and bingo Im talking to someone instantly.

Sure using chrome.
Go to
https://contactus.sky.com/uk/sky-tv/cancel-sky-tv
Then right click the live chat area and click inspect element.
Developer tools will open with a lot of HTML
Press Ctrl + f and search will pop up at the bottom. Type "
Start Live Chat" into the search no quotes.
That phrase will show in yellow and just above that you will see <a class="hidden btn primary-cta" ......
Click cancel on the search bar on the bottom.
Double click the word hidden and then delete it so it just shows class="btn primary-cta".
Look back on the page and you will have a nice Start Live Chat button to click.
Let me know if you have any issues. I Can do photos or steps in FF/edge or something if needed.
